He was awarded a pension of £51 13s 7d on 18th June 1896. He joined the Post Office as an Auxiliary Postman on 12th September 1850 and was promoted to a full time Postman on 13th June 1855. He retired at the age of 64, after having served 46 years. His pension was based on an annual salary of £77 11s. His date of birth was 11th July 1831.

He was awarded a gratuity of £21 12s 3d on 18th July 1898. He joined the Post Office as an Auxiliary Postman on 12th June 1893, became a temporary labourer on 1st March 1897 and a Labourer [presumably full time] on 3rd June 1897 (which is also the date of his Civil Service Certificate). He appears to have resigned as a result of general weakness and fits, after 5 years of service. His gratuity was based on an annual salary of £51 17s 6d. His date of birth was 21st February 1874.

She was awarded a gratuity of £41 14s 3d on 3rd July 1901, after resigning with a view to marriage, having served 8 years 4 months since the age of 16. She was employed as a learner and assistant at Stourbridge for nearly 2 years, became a Temporary Sorting Clerk and Telegraphist on 30th October 1892 and a Sorting Clerk and Telegraphist [presumably full time] on 27th January 1893, both at Stourbridge. The latter date is also that of her Civil Service Certificate. She worked at Birmingham from 4th November 1900. Her gratuity was based on an annual salary of £76 9s 1d. This record shows her as aged 24, born 18th June 1874 and marrying on 5th May 1901, which is in agreement with the marriage register of Edgbaston St George. This Post Office record is of interest in confirming the surname of her husband as HOOTON, since the GRO misindexed it as HORTON. Her date of birth was 12th December 1876.

She was awarded a gratuity of £76 8s 5d on 27th June 1906, after resigning with a view to marriage, having served 14 years 11 months. After being employed as an assistant for 5 months, she became a Temporary Sorting Clerk and Telegraphist on 6th July 1890 and a Sorting Clerk and Telegraphist [presumably full time] on 4th May 1891, which was also the date of her Civil Service Certificate. Her gratuity was based on an annual salary of £76 9s 1d. This record shows her date of marriage as 25th April 1906, but the correct date is 23rd April 1906, per the marriage register of Old Swinford St Mary. She appears in WFHC Tree 262. Her date of birth was 18th January 1874.

She was awarded a gratuity of £31 5s 9d on 27th October 1909, after resigning with a view to marriage, having served 6 years 2 months. After being employed as a learner for 3 years 1 month, she became a Temporary Sorting Clerk and Telegraphist on 3rd November 1902 and a Sorting Clerk and Telegraphist [presumably full time] on 24th May 1903. Her Civil Service Certificate was dated 12th April 1900. Her gratuity was based on an annual salary of £63 7s 0d. This record shows the date of her marriage as 4th September 1909, which has been added to the WFHC Marriages file. Her date of birth was 22nd May 1883.

After being employed as a learner for 2 years 7 months, she became a Temporary Sorting Clerk and Telegraphist at Wellingborough on 31st March 1902 and at Higham Ferrers on 28th October 1902, as a Sorting Clerk and Telegraphist [presumably full time] at Wellingborough on 28th November 1902 and was transferred at her own request to Thame on 20th September 1908. Her Civil Service Certificate was dated 10th October 1899. Her gratuity was based on a salary of £67 1s 9d. This record shows the date of her marriage as 18th July 1910, which has been added to the WFHC Marriages file. She appears in WFHC Tree 021. Her date of birth was 1st November 1882.

She was awarded a gratuity of £18 5s 2d on 2nd October 1917, after retiring through ill health, having served 4 years 1 month. She became a Counter Clerk & Telegraphist on 2nd August 1913, although her Civil Service Certificate was dated 17th September 1912. She ceased her duties on 8th January 1917, but was paid up to 29th September 1917. Her gratuity was based on an annual salary of £62 12s 0d, but over only 3½ years in view of the amount of sick leave taken, which in 1917 was noted as 264 days. Her date of birth was 28th March 1896.

She is shown as entry No. 14 out of 119 in the main index (POST 35/1678, on microfilm Reel 54). No Treasury Letter has yet been found, but she received a gratuity upon marriage. She is Florence Priscilla Stuart WHITEHOUSE, whose birth was registered in the 1st quarter of 1887 in Reading Registration District. Her marriage to Albert E. LOCK was registered in the 4th quarter of 1918 in Reading Registration District and her death in the 2nd quarter of 1977 in Southampton Registration District. The 1911 census records her as a national telephone operator, aged 24. She appears in WFHC Tree 274.
1921 WHITEHOUSE, Miss Kathleen L., Telephonist, Birmingham
She is shown as entry No. 137 out of 158 in the main index (POST 38/32 on microfilm Reel 55). No Treasury Letter has yet been found, but she received a gratuity upon marriage. She is Kathleen Laister WHITEHOUSE, born 1894 at Long Lane, Halesowen, birth registered in the 2nd quarter of 1894 in Stourbridge Registration District. Her marriage to Ambrose HUMPHREY was registered in the 3rd quarter of 1921 in Bromsgrove Registration District. She pre-deceased her husband on 28th August 1964, at West Hagley. The 1911 census records her as a NTC telephone operator, aged 16. She appears in WFHC Tree 262.
