POST OF MARKETING AND PRESS OFFICER

JOB PURPOSE

To assist the Director of Marketing and Learning Services, working on projects and other operational duties, including helping develop, organise and implement marketing, press and public relations activities that promote a positive image of Selby College to all stakeholders.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Press Relations

To research and produce press releases using information gathered from staff, students and other stakeholders that will gain maximum publicity for Selby College in line with the College’s 3 year Strategic Marketing Plan and other operational activities. Producing at least one positive news story that is featured in the local press each week.

To be responsible for developing and sustaining strong links with relevant target media and keeping up to date information on all media relations links.

To keep a library of press clippings/ photographs, advert designs and other images to be used in College press and PR activities.

Public Relations

To help plan a sustained effort of PR activity that establishes and maintains mutual goodwill and understanding between SelbyCollege and the local community, through the use of PR opportunities, sponsorship and media support.

To form an editorial group of students, Guidance and Support Tutors and Student Services Staff to produce quarterly, a Student Newsletter under the direction of the Director of Marketing and Learner Services, researching articles, co-ordinating student contributions and producing the newsletter.

To produce and arrange distribution of the College staff newsletter, Grapevine, at least 4 times per term. Liaising with key contributors.

Promotions

To design adverts once approved by the Director of Marketing and Learner Servicesand distribute to relevant media. To update key staff including Student Services on adverts before they are published and keep a file of all adverts produced.

To help plan and participate in the College’s range of promotional activities, including two Awards Evenings, (HE/Apprenticeships, Student Event) Open Days/Evenings, Exhibitions, Fashion Show, Schools Liaison Events and Exam Results Day and any other promotional event as required.

To help redevelop the College website and ensure it is regularly updated with current marketing information, news stories etc.

To co-ordinate and produce the Selby College Annual Full Time Guide, Scene Magazine and other publications, liaising with College Departments, Key Managers, Designers, Photographers, Printers and Distribution organisations.

To ensure that other College promotional materials are regularly updated, proofed for accuracy and grammar and fall in line with the College sub-branding strategy.

To maintain close links with Student Services and other College Departments to ensure they are kept informed and regularly updated on promotional activities and provide continual stories for use in press releases and other promotional activities.

To support Selby College Social Media activities including Facebook and Twitter including preparing updates, answering queries etc.

To represent Selby College/Marketing Department at meetings, exhibitions and other organised events (including evenings and occasional weekends).

To provide administration and operational support to the College Marketing team.

To undertake other such duties as may be required by or on behalf of SelbyCollege.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

Salary:£21,689 - £23,195 per annum

Hours:10 month FTC

37 hours per week, 52 weeks per annum

Holidays:25 days holiday
