POST: Marketing and Social Media Specialist

HOURS OF WORK: 36 hours per week

MANAGED BY: Head of Marketing

DEPARTMENT: Marketing

SALARY: £26,831 - £28,252 per annum incl. LWA

OUTLINE OF POST

The Marketing Team are responsible for reputation management, communication of college key messages to all external and internal stake holders as well as ensuring brand integrity, web presence, social networking and internal PR are of professional and high quality provision which clearly communicates our college’s identity and position in the market place.

We are looking for a highly-motivated and driven Marketing and Social Media Specialist to attract and interact with both current and prospective learners. The Marketing and Social Media Specialist will need to build upon and develop the college’s social media strategy through targeted digital campaigns, competitive research, platform determination, benchmarking and audience identification.

This post will also lead on key internal and external communications, management of the website copy and direct marketing.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Marketing

1.  To assist the Head of Marketing implement and contribute to achieving the marketing strategy and annual plan as agreed with the Director of Learner Journey.

2.  To manage and deliver key internal communications including the staff and learner newsletters and other ad hoc communications as and when required.

3.  To actively arrange and be responsible for all learner case studies and showcase success stories on a regular basis across all college platforms.

4.  Write effective and high quality copy for internal and external communications, the intranet, the college website and assist the Principal with copy when required.

5.  Managing the arrangement of internal posters / displays showing student case studies and organising prizes for competitions.

Events & Direct Marketing Campaigns

6.  Working with the Events and School Liaison Coordinator to maintain an overview of all events and school liaison, supporting when required PR and internal communications both online and offline, for the appropriate target market.

7.  Establishing and maintaining the direct marketing database.

8.  Managing and delivering direct marketing activity including email campaigns, researching the target market and sourcing or developing new lists.

9.  Recording and monitoring responses to direct marketing campaigns and reporting to Head of Marketing.

10.  To assist the Events and School Liaison Coordinator with the planning, logistics and running of college events.

Social Media and Digital Engagement

11.  Maintenance of the college website in relation to course content, promotion and accuracy of details in a timely manner.

12.  Management of all link building activity and updating the content of third party websites, such as Hotcourses.

13.  Responsible for maintaining the college’s social media channels, in line with the Head of Marketing and Director of Learner Journey.

14.  Maintaining the college’s reputation by ensuring relevant and timely key messages are issued and negative feedback identified and dealt with appropriately.

15.  Keeping abreast of new developments in social media and digital advertising; assessing impact of competitors’ activity and reporting regularly to the Head of Marketing.

General

16.  To raise purchase orders for suppliers.

17.  To be aware of the principles of safeguarding children and young people within the college.

18.  To be involved in college staff development and training schemes and participate in PDR procedures.

19.  To adhere to the college's single equality scheme with respect to staff and students.

20.  To comply with and implement the college’s health and safety policy.

21.  To undertake any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as may be required.

22.  Working outside of normal college hours as and when required.

Person Specification

Criteria / Essential / Desirable
Qualifications / 1.  Personal skills in English, Mathematics and ICT by holding Level 2 qualifications with a 5-year currency (or by undertaking initial assessments at job interview stage and by achieving Level 2 within one year of their appointment date as appropriate).
2.  A Marketing, Digital or PR related degree or equivalent qualification.
Experience / 3.  Significant experience in a marketing or digital role in either the public or private sector. Experience in education is preferable.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities / 4.  Highly competent Microsoft skills i.e. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and familiarity with email service providers such as MailChimp.
5.  A thorough understanding of the social media and digital landscape and how best to maximise these platforms within the FE sector.
6.  Experience of using Google Adwords, Facebook and Twitter advertising platforms and running successful campaigns.
7.  Excellent copy-writing skills and attention to detail.
8.  Ability to communicate effectively both orally, in writing and work with data.
9.  Commitment to working as part of a team.
10.  Experience of working with digital agencies and external suppliers.
11.  High level of organisation skills with the ability to plan work and keep accurate records.
12.  An understanding of the needs and backgrounds of all students and the equality and diversity implication for events and school liaison.
13.  Evidence of understanding and effective implementation of safeguarding policies and a commitment to creating a safer environment.
