POST: Deputy Day Care Manager

HOME: East Court

LOCATION: DOCTORS HILL, WOOKEY, WELLS, SOMERSET. BA5 1AR

RESPONSIBLE TO: Home Manager

PAY SCALE: £11.24 - £13.13 (£21,918 - £25,701 per annum)

WORK PATTERN: 9.30 am - 5:00 pm (Monday – Friday)

HOURS PER WEEK: 37.5

JOB PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

The deputy care manager will be responsible for delivering a high quality day care service at East Court consistent with the ethos, policies and objectives of Orchard Vale Trust

To provide leadership and support to the day care staff team in order to meet the needs of residents and to achieve identified goals

ACCOUNTABILITY

The Deputy Manager will be responsible to the Home Manager

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Management:

To be responsible for the management of the senior day-care work group leader and other staff exclusively delivering day care at East Court

To be responsible for oversight of support workers when working in day care services liaising as required with their line manager and the Manager of East Court concerning their performance and effectiveness

To ensure the service delivers a cohesive, resourced and quality service day by day which includes a comprehensive and varied program of planned activities that are adequately staffed

To ensure staff have clearly defined job descriptions and that they understand their own and each other’s roles and responsibilities

To ensure staff working in day care services are appropriately trained and skilled; liaising with the personnel manager as required

To support and supervise staff in all aspects of their work so that they are confident in the delivery of the service they provide to residents via supervision, appraisals, meetings, training and written communication

To ensure users of the day care service are safe and all safeguarding issues are dealt with in line with the Orchard Vale Trust Policy

To deal with any complaints regarding the day care service in line with OVT policy and in consultation with the Manager

To oversee and control the day care budget in liaison with the Manager and the Finance Manager

Service Development and Marketing

To promote the service with professionals and at events as agreed with the Manager so the service grows and develops taking into account local commissioners’ requirements

To monitor feedback of the day care services we provide (from clients, professional bodies and current residents) and implement any necessary improvements in consultation with the Manager

To oversee the production of brochures and other advertising, including material for OVT website

To identify and visit prospective clients in their homes, working with parents, carers and professionals to produce a realistic initial assessment and pricing scale

To ensure on-going liaison as appropriate with local councils, parents, etc., ensuring an annual review for each individual is undertaken either as part of a wider review process or ensuring an internal review meeting

Oversee the development and management of off-site day care activities as they develop

To take part in appropriate support groups that may convene outside normal working hours and to support (or arrange support) for individual residents that may need this outside the home. This task will be shared with other staff.

Service Delivery

To spend a proportion of time directly working in workgroups including overseeing and assessing clients

Developing with other staff individual plans and related record-keeping for clients that records desirable outcomes and their achievements towards these

To ensure that information given in confidence by residents and/or their representatives is handled and stored in accordance with the Trust’s written policies and procedures and the Data Protection Act 1998

Create an environment where residents can build on existing skills and develop new ones

Ensure transport requirements are managed when relevant.

Policy:

In consultation with the policies and procedures group, to develop specific day care polices as required for the service and to update these as required

To ensure compliance with all OVT policies within the day care service

To ensure there is a set of policies and procedures including appropriate forms for assessing clients, delivering services, monitoring progress and reviewing achievements.

General:

To take overall responsibility for the oversight of the outside grounds of East Court which are predominantly maintained by day-care activities in liaison with the site co-ordinator with specific responsibilities for maintenance

To ensure that the workshop spaces provide a safe, clean, well-maintained working environment for its users comfort

To take responsibility as the senior staff member present for the East Court site from time to time in the absence of the Manager and/or other Deputy Manager

To contribute as a senior staff member to the overall work of OVT by engaging with meetings and development activities as appropriate

INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE REVIEWS

To participate in a 12 month appraisal to clarify the purpose of the job, revise and review personal development plans

To undertake any training needs identified, either at work or with other agencies

To undertake any refresher courses necessary to maintain competence

PERSON SPECIFICATION

QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE

·  QCF Level 5 (or equivalent) in Management (this is not essential but you must be willing to work towards this qualification within the first 12 months of service)

·  4/5 years’ experience of working with people with learning disabilities

·  2/3 years’ experience at a supervisory/management level

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

·  Knowledge of the Care Standards Act 2008 & the Care Act 2014 and any other relevant legislation

·  Knowledge of the underpinning values and theory informing current best practice in care and support services

·  Ability to assess residents needs and to devise plans that meets their current and changing needs and aspirations

·  Ability to organise and manage staff in the effective delivery of the service provided to residents

·  Ability to support, coach and train staff to achieve the competencies required by them to fulfill their duties

·  Ability to communicate effectively with residents, their families/representatives, staff and management

·  Ability to manage the day care budgets and plan future expenditure

·  Ability to keep clear, accurate and concise records

·  Ability to prepare and write reports
