Overview of DCT Year 1 post:

Dental Core Training Year 1 posts are for candidates who have already obtained a DentalFoundation Training Certificate issued by a Postgraduate Deanery within the United Kingdom. This is a one year post offered across a range of clinical environments within Lancashire Care Dental Serviceincluding Primary Care, Paediatric and Special Care dental clinics. The post holders will complete the DCT training portfolio on assessment framework, as specified by the Foundation Curriculum.

Locations:

Lancashire Care Dental Service provides care in 53 surgeries across 19 sites including Primary Care Centres, Royal Blackburn, Burnley General and ClitheroeHospitals and Prison and Secure units.

Clinical Environment:

Lancashire Care Dental Service is one of the largest primary dental care servicesin the North West, providing dental care for all groups of patients. The appointees will have the opportunity to work in many of the clinical sites providing care under Personal Dental Service, Paediatric and Special Care Dentistry.

The posts are closely supervised and supported by senior colleagues

Educational & Clinical objectives

Gain experience from working with Specialists in Orthodontics, Paediatric Dentistry and Special Care Dentistry, clinicians with expertise in minor oral surgery and endodontics and clinicians who carry out domiciliary care; care under sedation and general anaesthesia; epidemiology; oral health promotion and alongside students who are training to be dental nurses, therapists and hygienists and dental students.

Acquire all the professional and clinical competencies of a primary care dentist and offer support for MJDF.

There will be an exit assessment for certification including an interview, E-portfolio review,Educational Supervisor report and study day attendance record.

Clinical and Learning opportunities:

A rich environment of clinical supported training in primary care and special care dentistry with training in urgent care, sedation, exodontia and comprehensive care under general anaesthesia.

Protected time given to attend the Deanery study day training programme. Regular formal teaching sessions and audit meetings with encouragement to attend other study days.

Rota information:

A weekly rota will be provided and duties will include regular sessions to provide emergency care both during the daytime and evenings and weekends.

Terms & Conditions of Employment:

You will be appointed on the Terms and Conditions of Service NHS Medical and Dental Staff (England 2002), the applicable Salary Scale for Dental Trainees in Hospital Posts (DTHP) is MN21, ranging from £28,076 to £39,092 for 37.5hours per week
