Post: Counselling Service Manager(Maternity Cover)

Hours: 22-25hrs

Line Manager: The Chief Executive Officer

Job Purpose

To coordinate and develop counselling services at Mind in Enfield and supervise the counselling team ensuring good ethical practice in accordance with BACP guidelines

To contribute to Mind in Enfield’s Annual Plan and service developments as part of the senior management team

MAIN TASKS

a)A. Management and Supervision
  1. To undertake overall responsibility for the running of Mind in Enfield's Counselling Service.
  1. To assist in identifying sources of funding and preparing fundraising applications.
  1. To manage the recruitment and induction of paid and volunteer counsellors.
  1. To ensure that ongoing training is provided for paid and volunteer counsellors and to be involved in the planning, organisation and delivery of the training.
  1. To recruit external supervisors who will provide group supervision for paid and volunteer counsellors.
  1. To undertake continuous evaluation of the Service and ensure that an efficient evaluation system exists.
  1. To undertake and develop research into service effectiveness.
  1. To maintain an overview of the caseload and effectiveness of the paid and volunteer counsellors.
  1. To ensure an inclusive Counselling Service is provided.
  1. To provide regular managerial supervision and to oversee the work of all staff within the Counselling Service.
  1. To work with other Senior Managers as part of the Mind in Enfield Senior management team to provide the organisation with managerial support and direction.
  1. To ensure the promotion of Mind in Enfield’s Counselling Service by developing relationships with relevant organisations in the borough of Enfield.
  1. To continually seek out and nurture relationships with accredited counselling training establishments with a view to promoting counselling placements at Mind in Enfield.
  1. To establish and maintain links with funders and complete monitoring reports and evaluation requirements.
b)B. Managing the Client List
  1. To ensure clients who approach Mind in Enfield’s Counselling Service are offered an assessment.
  1. To ensure that clients are referred to appropriate agencies if they cannot be offered a service at Mind in Enfield.
  1. To ensure that there is a mix of counselling orientations represented amongst the counsellors and supervisors.
  1. To manage the allocation of clients tor counsellors.
  1. To manage the client waiting list and keep those on it informed.

C. Service Development.

  1. To undertake regular reviews of all aspects of the Counselling Service.
  1. To develop and regularly review operational policies for the Counselling Service.
  1. To ensure that the Counselling Service continues to be multicultural and meets the needs of all residents in the borough.
  1. To assess the need to provide other relevant counselling services within Mind in Enfield as part of the ongoing development of the Counselling Service.
  1. To utilise information received from counselling service evaluation to continually improve the counselling service in line with service users’ comments and suggestions.
  1. To maintain close links with other mental health professionals and outside agencies.
  1. To engage in targeted publicity of the projects within the service.
c)F. Client work
  1. To maintain a small caseload.
  1. To attend clinical supervision on a regular basis.
d)G. General tasks
  1. To ensure that accurate and complete monitoring data on the counselling service is kept for statistical reports.
  1. To develop and maintain information about the Counselling Service which may be required for publicity and fundraising purposes.
  1. To educate other professionals about the value and importance of counselling as an option for all groups experiencing emotional distress.
  1. To ensure that the Counselling Service keeps within its allocated budget.
  1. To attend managerial supervision, with line manager on a regular basis.
  1. To work within all Mind in Enfield’s policies and procedures and to develop and promote quality standards.
  1. To ensure that the Counselling Service and counsellors maintain their membership of BACP and adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework.
  1. To contribute to Mind in Enfield’s annual report.
  1. To attend and participate at relevant staff meetings and other relevant meetings including the meeting of the Board of Trustees when required.
  1. To contribute to the day-to-day running of the organisation, campaigning and events organised by Mind in Enfield.
  1. To attend and participate in identified individual training and staff team training.
  1. To liaise and network with other Mind in Enfield staff.
  1. To undertake any other duties as instructed by the Chief Executive Officer or Chair of Mind in Enfield as and when necessary and to work those hours required to complete the tasks of the job.
