Job Objective:To raise awareness of Springboard for Children to a wide variety of stakeholders through the implementation of our Communications Strategy and delivery of our programme of 3rd party events.

Location:Central Office; 4 Bedlam Mews, London SE11 6DF

Main Duties:

  • To develop and deliver a programme of Communications with the objective of increasing revenue by the implementation of an number of campaigns that will include:
  • Events
  • General donations, including COTY, in-memoriam, gifts with purpose
  • Committed Giving
  • Seasonal appeals
  • To develop and maintain communication with supporters and general public through new media – Facebook, Twitter, Blog and PR campaigns
  • To write external facing literature including:
  • Newsletters
  • Fundraising materials to increase number and lifetime value of supporters
  • Website content
  • Campaigns and appeals
  • Responses to developing news issues
  • Promotion and administration of 3rd party events (abseil, runs, challenge events) with the objective of increasing revenue from this fundraising stream
  • To work closely with all members of the fundraising team to ensure the delivery of a coherent and effective approach to supporter development and fundraising

Terms and Conditions

Hours:9.00 to 5.00 3 days per week

Salary:£24,000 per annum, pro rata

Holidays:30 days pro rata plus bank holidays

Person Specification

We operate in a culture of flexibility, adaptability, initiative taking and team working and would expect to see these qualities in the Communications and Events Fundraiser.

EDUCATION / Educated to Degree level or equivalent
EXPERIENCE / Experience with Microsoft Office Packages: Outlook, Excel and Word.
Specific experience of copywriting for different audiences, such as press releases, newsletters, web etc is essential
Specific experience of copywriting for marketing and fundraising purposes is essential
Specific experience of developing and managing new media communications is essential
Experience of issuing press releases
Experience of 3rd party event fundraising is desirable rather than essential.

Background to Fundraising at Springboard for Children

Springboard for Children

Springboard for Children has been in existence for 19 years. We currently teach over 400 children and fundraise to meet an annual budget of £850,000. A third of that amount is raised from fees charged to schools for the tuition we provide.

Springboard is in the process of developing the breadth of the service we offer to schools. In this exciting phase of Springboard’s development you will be part of a dynamic team who resource the existing and new work through a broad based fundraising strategy.

Springboard for Children – Trustees (8)

Springboard for Children has a strong board of trustees, encompassing a wide range of skill and talent. The Trustee Board reflects the Christian foundations of the charity and uphold the charity’s ethos and values as set out in the Springboard Charter.

The trustees meet with the CEO, Finance Manager, Fundraising Manager and a representative from the Education team six times a year to hear reports from the senior executive and agree strategy and direction.

Springboard for Children – fundraising team (5)

The Fundraising Team is made up as follows: Fundraising Manager; Regional Fundraiser; volunteer Event Fundraiser and a current vacant position for a fundraising researcher. The Communications and Event Fundraiser will be the 5th member of the Team.

The Team supports the work of the Trustees and the strategic direction of the charity through the implementation of the Fundraising Strategy. The fundraising activities include income generation from charitable trusts and foundations; corporates; committed givers; challenge events and community fundraising.

The Communications and Events Fundraiser will report to the Fundraising Manager with regard to events and the CEO with regard to communications. Meetings will be held regularly to discuss progress against set objectives for each area of work.

Annual income for the year ended 31st August 2009, is broken down into the following categories:

Schools contribute towards the costs of provision through school fees, currently just over 30%.

The income target for 2010/11 is £857,000. £603,428 has already been secured towards this target from fees and grants. Total amount remaining to fund for 2010/11 is £253,572.
