THE ACADEMY FOR PERFORMING ARTS`
2016-2017SENIOR INTERNSHIP PROGRAM / SENIOR PROJECT

HANDBOOK

The class of 2017is dually enrolled at UCVTS and Kean University. Kean’s 2016-2017 school calendar spans 155 days(including Kean Orientation days) + graduation. In order to satisfy the State requirement for a high school endorsed diploma, students are responsible for completing 27 additional school days.Kean University may close for a number of days each year due to inclement weather. Therefore, two extra days are built into the calendar (Total school days = 182). If the inclement weather days are not used, the calendar will be adjusted accordingly. As students can only receive credit once for any individual school day, students must satisfy the 27 day requirement when Kean is not in session (any day that is highlighted in yellow on the APA 2016-2017 academic calendar).

POSSIBLE WAYS to fulfill the 27 day requirement:

Internships:

Interning or working for a professional company in theatre / dance

Interning / shadowing a professional in the arts or another field of interest

Interning with:

A teacher on the UCVTS campus, a member of the Kean faculty, APA Kean Office, Luis Martinez, the Pinedas, Carolyn Dorfman, Dawud Jackson, the JCC, Wharton Music Center, Dancers Pointe studio, Complexions Contemporary Ballet or someone else of your choosing. Please consider internships as Student Learning Experience (SLE). An experience that is beneficial to you as a prerequisite to working in the “Professional World”.

**If you are interested in interning with any of the above named people, please indicate that person on the letter of intent form –please include your areas of interest.

Senior Projects:

Choreograph / Tech / Perform Original Piece of Dance

Direct /Write / Tech /Perform an original piece of work (play, short story, TV show, movie, etc…) or Direct/Tech/Perform an already established piece of work. Students must submit a detailed proposal and project plan.

Classes:

Taking a winter session class ( Tentative date:January 4-21, 2017) - These courses will be limited, as not all departments are able to offer courses in that abbreviated time configuration, but there may be something that is of interest to you, and that further reduces the number of required instructional days. Winter session meets for 14 days. Tuition for winter is not part of the Kean/APAtuitionagreement. Therefore, if you were to select to take an additional course, a tuition payment would be required.
