PositionDescription: Residency Museum Assistant

Purpose: To provide support and assistance to the Residency Museum Curator in administration and provide weekend and Public Holiday visitor services at the Museum. This role also works closely with Museum volunteers to ensure a positive visitor experience and the wellbeing of the Museum.

Role Responsibilities
  • To ensure a staff presence on weekends and public holidays so the museum is open to receive visitors for all advertised hours
  • To support and assist the Curator with the maintenance of the museum collection
  • To provide information and customer service to visitors
  • To oversee volunteers in a way that maintains their engagement and commitment to the Museum and to ensure that visitor services remain at a high standard
  • To provide strong administrative services, including, banking, budget reporting, database upkeep and visitor figures
  • To promote the Shire of York, its other tourism facilities and sites of interest

Performance of Duties
  • While on duty, staff will give their whole time and attention to the Shire of York’s business and ensure that their work is carried out efficiently, economically and effectively, and that their standard of work reflects favourably both on them and on the Shire.
  • Staff must also perform their duties impartially and in the best interests of the Shire of York uninfluenced by fear or favour.

Required Skills and Qualifications
Essential
Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
Customer services skills
A demonstrated interest in the history of York and its heritage
Developed computer skills and the Microsoft suite of programs.
Desirable
Experience or knowledge in the running of museums and maintaining an historic collection
Database input and operations experience
