POSITION SUMMARY

The Executive Director of the YWCA is responsible for implementing the mission and purpose of the YWCA and the YWCA USA in her or his work. The Executive Director leads the YWCA in working for the empowerment of women and the elimination of racism both through social change and through direct service to clients.

The Executive Director is responsible for developing and managing the programs and services provided by the YWCA and sets the tone and focus of the organization. With the Board of Directors and the Executive Management Team, she or he is responsible for visioning and planning for the future of the organization and for actualizing and implementing those plans effectively. She or he is the primary spokesperson to the community, to the membership and supporters, and to other YWCAs both on the regional and national level. She or he is responsible for compliances in the YWCA’s relationship with the YWCA USA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Financial and Administrative Responsibilities

  • Oversee the financial management and fund development of the organization and implement a fiscal management strategy that assures adequate financing for operating needs, unanticipated expenditures, and long term goals.
  • With the Finance Director, oversee the development of the annual budget; oversee ongoing analysis, projections, and strategies to maintain a balanced budget; direct grant budget development, monitoring reports and audits.
  • Oversee the use, management, security improvement and maintenance of five owned YWCA facilities.
  • Oversee the appropriate use and maintenance of two leased YWCA facilities.
  • Oversee all contracts, protections, insurances, and other safeguards to the legal status, liabilities and fiscal responsibilities of the YWCA.
  • Oversee all Human Resources regulatory and compliance issues, including, but not limited to, employment, training, termination.

Board of Directors Relations

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to establish, evaluate, and accomplish overall organizational goals.
  • Participate with and support all Board committees and their goals.
  • Participate in Board of Directors meetings, and provide continuous information and insight regarding all internal operations, financial considerations, any relevant local, regional, national, legislative or judicial issues.
  • Responsible, together with the Board, for resource and fund development in all facets, cultivation of private foundations, corporate sponsorships, and individual donors.

Fundraising

  • Assure strong and consistent revenue streams and build reserves for a sound financial future.
  • Lead staff development team in the pursuit of diverse grants and federal, state and local contracts.
  • Responsible, together with the Board, for resource and fund development in all facets: cultivation of private donations, corporate sponsorships, and individual donors.

Public Relations and Marketing

  • Oversee and direct marketing and public relations efforts for the YWCA and its programs and services in all communities served and where the seven sites are located.
  • Ensure consistent information to the public about the YWCA through all media, social, traditional, public speaking and other modes.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must Have

  • 10 to 15 years in senior or executive level management positions, preferably in non-profitorganizations.
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited educational institution, in a relevant field.
  • Clear and effective communication skills with donors, businesses, government officials, the media, staff, Board members and communities served.
  • Experience in the management of multiple facility resources, assets and operations.
  • Fundraising experience.
  • Experience in ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations regarding multiple contracts, funding sources, governmental agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a high level management team.
  • Experience in the preparation of budgets and the analysis of financial statements; experience in monitoring those budgets with financial controls and accountability.
  • Commitment to and passion for the mission of the YWCA.
  • Demonstrated commitment to women, children and family services through previous work.
  • High professional values, personal integrity and ethical conduct.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS

Work requires lifting, sitting, standing, stooping, bending, walking, climbing, finger and hand dexterity and the ability to work one on one with staff.

Work is varied in nature due to needs of the YWCA and its employees and is likely to have many interruptions.

It is expected that all professional staff will function as self-directed members of a team. The activities and performance of the individual in this position shall meet appropriate professional standards and be in keeping with the philosophy and purpose of the YWCA of Greater Lawrence.
