Position Title: Director of Music Ministry (Full time - 35 hrs)

Reports To: Senior Minister

A.General Description of Position:

To develop, coordinate and administer an effective, well-rounded music program and provide leadership and supervision of volunteers involved in this ministry. Creation and supervision of music for all services and supervision and coordination of soloists and musical ensembles, i.e. Unity Chorus, New Day, Gospel Connection, Interlace, etc.

B.Position Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Plan and implement music for all worship services, consult with Senior Minister regarding theme, selection ofhymns and special music.

2. Recruit and rehearse participants in the music program.

3. Provide administrative and artistic assistance to directors of other ensembles.

4. Contract with individual musicians, both from within and without the church, to provide special music when an ensemble is not scheduled.

5. Plan and produce special music concerts and/or workshops 3-4 times per year.

6. Coordinate with sound team regularly to plan for audio/visual requirements, aid in reproduction of media, etc.

7. Provide all administrative effort required for all of the above, to include fundraising, budget proposals, communications with and training of volunteer musicians, etc.

8. Select, purchase and maintain music resources.

9. Assist with and/or coordinate music for special services, church functions and retreats.

10. Provide music for weddings and memorial services, as requested, or contract for same if not personally available. Note: Music designated in this point is not part of the salary package and is paid by the respective parties hosting the special service.

11. Create Powerpoint (or its successor program) slides for worship and special services.

12. Attend staff and ministry meetings.

C.Position Skills/Standards:

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in music. Choral directing experience, solo performance experience, keyboard expertise. Experienced, professional musician with leadership ability. Must be sensitive to group energy and possess a variety of highly developed musical skills including: ability to write and/or develop inspiring musical programs; must be accomplished in leading/directing group singing and other musical activities, accompanying other soloists. Must possess strong administrative and organization skills and be a dedicated team player.
