POSITION TITLE:Director of Communication

REPORTS TO:Vice President for Enrollment Management and Marketing

BASIC FUNCTION:The position leads the university’s efforts to brand the institution and its academic units, accomplishments, faculty and personnel. The position creates and implements strategies that combine paid opportunities with public relations. This position is part of the Enrollment and Marketing Director Team and the Marketing Task Force.

  • Has experience leading and developing teams
  • Has the ability to execute multiple projects and tasks concurrently
  • Has developed communication skills and the ability to produce written content
  • Possesses strong marketing, communication, interpersonal, and team skills
  • Experience in the professional practice of public relations. Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) preferred
  • Exhibits creativity and vision in marketing, messages, projects and campaigns
  • Bachelor’s degree required, five years’ experience in related field and master’s degree preferred.
  • Understanding of Huntington University’s internal and external constituents

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Public Relations
  • Responsible for creation of an institutional public relations strategy that supports University recruitment, fund-raising and imaging strategies
  • Assist with the creation and execution of University events staged by the President’s Office, Enrollment Management or the Advancement Office
  • Work with the Web and Social Media Coordinator to develop a social media strategy that supports institutional goals
  • Provide updates and University speaking points for the President
  1. Media Relations
  • Develop relationships with media personnel to create a network of resources for sharing University stories and accomplishments
  • Submit regular press releases promoting events and accomplishments of the Huntington University community
  • Pitch story ideas that are timely and relevant to media outlets
  • Respond to media inquiries and channel them to University personnel as appropriate
  1. Marketing
  • Responsible for the maintenance and implementation of a marketing plan that affirms and builds the Huntington University identity
  • Support the Faith Forward 2022 initiatives
  • Work with outside vendors who are developing marketing initiatives, materials and the web
  • Create and maintain university brand standards and graphic identity for the campus community
  • Coordinate photography for the institution and maintain a library of photos that can be used on the web and in print collateral
  • Supervise and lend direction to the university’s graphic design team and coordinate freelance requests
  • Coordinate University signage requests
  1. Web
  • Provide direction and leadership to the Web/Media Manager as well as the Web Programmer/Analyst concerning web strategy and practices that support University recruitment, fund-raising and imaging strategies
  • Keep up to date on current trends and practices for websites within higher education
  1. University Publications
  • Lead the development and execution of University Magazine in conjunction with the President’s and Advancement Offices
  • Work with leadership within the Admissions Office in the creation and development of printed recruitment materials
  • Creation of alumni, student, and faculty profiles to be used in print collateral as well as the web
  1. Superviseactivities of university relations staff responsible for media relations, publications, graphic design, website and social media content
  2. Perform projects as assigned by the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Marketing
