As we approach our 50 year Golden Anniversary, the BGCGB is laying the foundation for continued strategic expansion of its life changing program portfolio. We are seeking a Chief Development Officer (CDO) who will lead the design and execution of a comprehensive fundraising program that matches our reputation for innovation and excellence.

The Chief Development Officer will provide expert direction in a development of creative strategies that continue to expand BGCGB’s major donor base, including primary responsibility (anticipated to be 70%+ of time) for Major and Planned Giving for Individuals and securing Corporate Funding Partnerships. This position has strategic responsibility for the department, will have metrics on developing and advancing a portfolio of prospects through direct involvement of key board members and Executive Director and will work on the case for support and menu of giving opportunities to elevate campaign opportunity. In addition, the CDO will serve as an influential member of the executive management team, an effective partner to BGCGB’s Executive Director and Board of Directors, a mentor and role model for an established team of development staff, and a lead ambassador to high-level partners and donors. The CDO plays a critical role in BGCGB advancement and achievement of our mission, vision, values, and strategic objectives.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; or equivalent.
  • 5-7 years of experience designing and/or implementing world-class fundraising operations and donor stewardship programs with diversified funding and sustainable growth.
  • A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in a non-profit organization in the fund-raising/special event management/sales/marketing; or equivalent.
  • Record of personally securing 5-6-figure gifts, major and planned, as well as corporate partnership opportunities.
  • Considerable knowledge of contemporary fund-raising techniques, and sources of funding for non-profit agencies.
  • Proven leadership experience including providing staff oversight, mentoring and development, establishing department goals and objectives, and work direction as needed. Knowledge of: the mission, objectives, policies, programs and procedures and of the principles and practices of non-profit organizations, youth development services preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and coordinate fund-raising operations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Club staff, Board members, volunteers, community groups and others.
  • Knowledge of computer software especially donor database applications.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE PREFERRED

  • Experience planning for, leading, or participating in a large fundraising campaign is highly preferred
  • Working competency with e-Tapestry resource development software
  • Demonstrated success with face-to-face resource development
  • Familiarity with local funding sources/relevant contacts
  • Functional understanding of/appreciation for Boys & Girls Clubs
