POSITION TITLE: 1.0 FTE Elementary Music Teacher (2017-2018 School Year Only)

DEFINITION OF POSITION: The elementary music teacher will prepare lessons, instruct students, and prepare students for musical performances at multiple schools in the district.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Elementary Principal

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·  Possess or be eligible for a Washington State Teaching certificate with a music endorsement

·  Successful experience working with the elementary-age child

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·  Experience teaching at the elementary level (grades K-5)

·  Experience working with other music educators in the district

·  Working knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices, providing for individual differences

·  Experience organizing and presenting concerts

·  Experience and/or training in ESL/ELL (English as a Second Language)

·  Experience and/or training in using alternative classroom assessments

·  Experience working collaboratively with all school staff members

ESSENTIAL JOB RELATED ACTIVITIES

·  Identify the learning needs of individual students

·  Establish learning objectives consistent with the learning needs of students as well as with the District’s learning objectives and goals

·  Plan and develop a variety of instructional experiences appropriate to the specified learning objectives and outcomes

·  Conduct an effective instructional plan for the classroom

·  Integrate technology into the curriculum

·  Assess student achievement

·  Select and/or create appropriate instructional materials

·  Organize the physical setting so it contributes to learning and keep classroom materials well organized

·  Organize at least one concert for each grade band at each assigned school

·  Organize small group or large group learning experiences as appropriate to the subject matter and outcomes desired

·  Provide a positive classroom climate conducive to student learning

·  Develop and maintain clear standards for student conduct with appropriate disciplinary action

·  Work cooperatively and professionally with staff and community members

·  Maintain effective communication with staff and families

·  Coordinate use of parent volunteers in the classroom learning experiences

·  Assume responsibility for school activities

·  Possess and practice strong interpersonal skills with a wide variety of people both inside and outside the organization (staff, parents, community members, other agencies)

·  Be a positive team builder who works in a collaborative manner

·  Meet multiple demands in pressure situations and maintain high levels of quality work

·  Maintain confidentiality

·  Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing

·  Regularly demonstrate professionalism in appearance, actions, decisions, and overall performance

·  Work with minimal supervision and be flexible

TERMS OF CONTRACT:

·  Salary: State Salary Schedule (depending on experience and level of education)

·  Length of Contract: 1.0 FTE, 180 days plus professional development days, 2017-2018 school year only

·  Leaves/Benefits: As per district policy
