Position: Part Time Child and Youth Recreation Worker
Responsible To: Executive Director
Function: Co Facilitation of the Greenway Chaplin Community Centre Pre-teen Drop In Program, Sports Night Drop In Program, and other psychoeducational groups
Hours:6-8/week
Contract Term: January – June 2016
Pay: $12/hour
Schedule: Tuesdays 5:45pm-10:15pm; Wednesdays 5:45pm-7:15pm; occasional relief (Mondays-Saturday). Occasionally, and with advanced notice you may be scheduled as early as 3:00pm

Major Duties include but are not limited to:
- Lead program participants in sports, games, crafts and activities.
- Ensure the safety and supervision of participants and responding to any first aid situations.
- Deliver programs and ensure programming is appropriate to respond to the needs and ages of the participants
- Build appropriate relationships with participants
- Assisting with the delivery of programs in accordance with all Centre’s policies, procedures and guidelines
- Responsible for attending all centre staff meetings, mandatory trainings and events
- Ensure the safety and supervision of participants and youth volunteers, by identifying and removing hazardous objects and materials, and responding to any first aid situations.
- Assist in planning activities that encourage participation in the youth drop-in programs
- Deliver drop-in programs and ensure programming is appropriate to respond to the needs and ages of the participants
- Assisting with activities each evening, based upon the program plans and the interest of the youth
- Assisting co-worker to deliver the program outcomes
- Assisting with the set-up and clean-up with co-worker
- Responsible for attending all scheduled events and offsite trips
- Responsible for ensuring the accurate keeping of all program records
- Work with an understanding and sensitivity to the multi-cultural needs of our community.
- Assist in the Maintenance of Greenway Facebook, Twitter, and Instragram
- Some report writing, typing and filing. Maintain accurate and updated files
- Responsible for working with co-worker to track daily attendance of participants, volunteers and ensuring records are submitted to main office on a regular basis
Qualifications and Experience:
- Degree or Diploma in child/youth related field: ie. Recreation and Leisure, Child and Youth Work, Social Work
- Excellent communication, organizational skills
- Experience working with a diverse population, volunteers and community partners
- First Aid and CPR certification
- High Five: Principals of Health Childhood Development certificate
- Food Handling certificate an asset
- Self-directed team player who can work independently with minimal supervision
- Able to work in a fast pace environment
Minimum one year experience in:
- Behaviour management and facilitation skills
- Programimplementation and evaluation experience, problem solving and conflict management skills
