Position – NSRI Project Director

Overview of NSRI;
NSRI’s aim is to become the focal point for the UK’s subsea oil and gas sector research and development activities by facilitating a direct link between the subsea community, academia,research funding organisations and government bodies. This achieved by an understanding of the sector’s needs and the research and development landscape to increase activity to the benefit of both industry and the wider community.
NSRI is an independent, not for profit company which will work closely with Subsea UK to become the champion of subsea technology development. It will provide understanding and knowledge of subsea technology needs and make this available to subsea companies throughout the UK. As the industry’s advisory body and interface for subsea R&D activities, it will act as the conduit of knowledge transfer between industry and academia,building stronger links between the industry and the UK’s academic community, with the aim of increasing subsea related research in the UK.
NSRI will engage with, influence and feed into other industry bodies and initiatives such as theOil & Gas Innovation Centre, Scottish Funding Council and the Technology Strategy Board and other organisations.
Like Subsea UK, the organisation will be able to operate across the entire UK in order to access and represent all the subsea companies and potential academic partners.
Overview of Role;
The role of the NSRI Project Director will be to execute a business plan in support of these aims supported by a Subsea Technology Advisory Group and reporting to the board of NSRI.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities;
Technical
Through engagement with the UK subsea community, develop and maintain a portfolio of the strategic research and technology development requirements. This will include co-ordination by the Subsea Technology Advisory Group(s) (STAG) to provide advice and input.
Develop and maintain a mapping of the R&D landscape as relevant to the subsea industrywhich will include the various industry, government and academic bodies and funding sources.
Facilitate a productive engagement between Academia and the Subsea Industry to generate a linking between industry requirements and research capability.
Development and management of strategic initiatives and relationships with strategic partners, including industry, academic and other third parties (e.g. Subsea UK, OGIC, Oil & Gas UK,TSB Etc.) to further subsea research and development.
Co-ordination of external meetings, trade shows and other events as required.
Managerial
Development of overall business plan.
Management and administration of financial, legal and business matters as they pertain to the day-to-day business of the Company.
Preparation of management reports, financial reports and forward planning for the Board and others such as Scottish Enterprise.
Responsible for budget and cost control.
Administrative
Maintenance of the Company’s Business Processes and related documentation control.
Responsible for preparation and maintenance of the Business Plan and Communications Plan.
Maintenance of the Company’s communications, including promotional material, website management etc.
Management of the NSRI office facilities, supported by the Office Administrator.
Organisation
The role of NSRI Project Director will report directly to the board of NSRI.
An Office Administrator will report (part time) to this role. The support Office Administrator will reside in the Subsea UK office in Westhill, Aberdeen.
Qualifications and General requirements
It is desirable for the candidate to be degree qualified in Engineering ,Science or Marine,alternatively HNC/HND plus appropriate experience of working in the UK subsea sector including some research and development background.
Ability to manage interfaces with a project structure including other disciplines, operators, suppliers and academia.
Sound communication skills oral, written and electronic.
Generally conversant with IT systems such as e mail, internet and capable of utilising standard software packages such as MS Office as may be required to facilitate correspondence, reports and presentations.
Experience of general management duties including developing work scopes, schedules and financial control.
Experience in the Subsea sector of the Oil & Gas Industry preferred but not essential.
The role will include travelling within the UK to various companies and academic institutions.
