BASIC DUTIES
Entry to mid-level position that can perform a variety of functions in the Human Resources Department; assist with preparing, interpreting and updating Human Resource policies and procedures; participate and lead project work to further streamline HR processes; assists the Human Resources Department on updating HRMS, in compliance with federal, state and local laws; in the compliance and maintenance of accurate service records for active employees; in the maintaining of records for inactive employees; and, in the compilation and maintenance of appropriate affirmative action reports and all other reports as required; downloading faculty workload assignments and ensure the timely transfer of information to payroll; support and assist in the creation, building or generation of queries for management as well as other departments on campus as needed along with working with programmer to maximize the capabilities of our HRMS; run edits on a regular scheduled basis in HRMS (PeopleSoft) to insure the accuracy and integrity of the data; processing SURS certifications for newly hired employees and processing SURS retirements or terminations for employees; maintaining timely exchange of employee information with Payroll Department; assists Human Resources Manager in work of confidential nature and other project work as directed; support HR Specialist entering data on employees in the PeopleSoft HRMS database and enter adjustments and additional pays as needed and authorized; completing assigned projects/tasks for Human Resources Manager as requested; providing back-up front desk coverage and forms; providing training and cross-training with other Human Resources staff to ensure effective and efficient performance of general functions and position-related tasks; perform other related duties as required.
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS
Associate’s degree and one to three years of HR/Payroll experience. Knowledge of: Operation principles of PC computer systems; principles and practices of Human Resources; personnel policies and practices; affirmative action programs; purchase orders; internet and email technologies; Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Human Resources benefits. Ability to: Provide leadership in Human Resources initiatives; maintain effective working relationships with employee relations; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; type a minimum of 35 net words per minute; perform data entry functions with accuracy; be proficient in Microsoft Office; critical and analytical thinking are essential.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Professional HR (PHR) certification; PeopleSoft for HRMS/Payroll experience and working knowledge of accounting and business principles.
