The Ministry of Youth and Sports invites applications from suitably dynamic, qualified and experienced driversfor the position of driver for the Honourable, Minister for Youth and Sports. The incumbent will be based at the Ministry’s Headquarters, Nasoqo House, Suva.

POSITION: DRIVER (EXECUTIVE DIVISION) REFERENCE: VACANCY NO: 34/2017

POSITION PURPOSE

To provide and execute effectively logistic support services for the Honorable Minister of Youth and Sports.

KEY DUTIES

The position will achieve its purpose through the following key duties:

  1. Provision of logistical and driving support in a well-coordinated way
  2. Ensure the vehicle is clean, ready and well-maintained for duty at all times
  3. Ensure timely filing and submission of daily vehicle running sheets, log books, fuel purchases
  4. Prompt to attend to official duties and engagements
  5. Support the office of the Minister with duties including filing, preparing documents and other duties as decided from time to time

PERSON SPECIFICATION

The candidate must have a valid and clean driving licence and Defensive Driving Certificate. He/she must have the following Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities to undertake this role successfully:

Knowledge and Experience

  1. Significant continuous experience driving executive level passengers safely
  2. Demonstrated experience in vehicle mechanics
  3. Demonstrated good understanding of road protocols and networks in Fiji
  4. An understanding of the Fijian Constitution (2013) and applicable laws of Fiji
  5. Sound knowledge of Government Transport Policy

Skills and Abilities

  1. Demonstrated ability to drive passengers, equipment safely at night and during the day
  2. Demonstrated ability to drive a four-wheel drive vehicle and a 3-ton truck
  3. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement high service standards and to be responsive to client needs and timelines
  4. Excellent communication skills while maintaining confidentiality
  5. Excellent time management with an ability to work after official hours when required, including at short notice
  6. Ability to use computer programs and file documents

Qualification: Applicants for employment in the Ministry of Youth and Sports should be Fijian citizens, of good character, with a background that demonstrates their commitment to the public service values contained in the 2013 Constitution, under age 55, in good health, with a clean police record in addition to being a non-smoker, non-drinker (alcohol and kava) and must be available 24/7. The successful applicant will be required to provide eye test results and police clearance as a condition of employment.

Salary- Hourly rate - $6.27
