Position Overview

The Department of Human Services delivers social, health and other services to individuals, families, communities, business and health care providers.

An internship with the Department of Human Services provides participants an opportunity to gain vauable experience and develop skills, knowledge and an understanding of the work of business areas that are responsible for developing strategy and policy, research, projects and corporate and people programmes.

Interns will be placed in a business area within the Shared Services Group which is responsible for a range of services and functions relating to:

•  Corporate Services including Property, Security, Procurement and Records Management

•  Human Resource (HR) Policy and HR Support; and

•  Payroll and HR Operations.

Interns will be required to undertake duties under the close guidance of a senior employee. They will perform routine tasks, deliver results in accordance with team work goals, business plans and manage and organise work in the context of competing priorities.

Key Duties

Duties may include some or all of the following:

•  Liaise with stakeholders to respond to routine enquiries, obtain and provide information on straight forward matters and refer complex enquiries to higher classification levels

•  Participate in stakeholder engagement activities including consulting with internal/external clients

•  Assist in the analysis, implementation and establishment of aspects of a project or program

•  Maintain registers and information databases including data entry and data retrieval

•  Respond to requests for straightforward, routine information using template responses and agreed formats

•  Check for the accuracy of information

•  Assist in research and analysis of programme activities, including database searches and contribution to reports

•  Assist with diagnoses and resolution of simple incidents under guidance from senior staff

•  File records in accordance with information management processes and security requirements

•  Provide procedural, clerical and administrative support to the work area, senior employees or committes

•  Exercise delegations in accordance with legislation and guidelines

Ideal Degree/Discipline

Students from all disciplines of study will be considered.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate that their degree or discipline of study has direct relevance to the positions available within the Shared Service Group.

Remuneration

$25.86 per hour (Plus a loading in accordance with the Department of Human Services Agreement 2011-2014, or any future enterprise agreement.)

Eligibility Requirements

·  Stage of study: Second last or final year/undergraduate or postgraduate study.

·  To be eligible for employment with the Department of Human Services candidates must be an Australian citizen. Should you be found suitable for a role you will be required to provide proof of citizenship.

·  An applicant's suitability for employment with the Department of Human Services will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process including: a satisfactory police history check, referee checks, and employment history. Any concerns raised in these checks will be further investigated.
