POSITION DESCRIPTION

Title: Patient Benefits Tribal Assistor

Schedule: Monday through Friday

Location: Longview, WA

Opening Date: April 25, 2016

Classification: Full time

Salary Range: $15.00

Closing Date: May 2, 2016 or until filled

Position Summary:

To assist the Tribal Health Clinic and the Contract Health Services program in finding alternate resources for all uninsured patients. This includes all state, county or community programs that may be available. This person is also responsible for patient registration and patient enrollment in the WA State Health Insurance Exchange. Other Departments may be added as needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) Identify uninsured or underinsured patients upon admission and screen them for eligibility for other programs, including, but not limited to: Medicaid, Medicare, Medicare Part D and other benefits through the WA State Insurance Exchange.

2) Close case management of all patients is very important to the success of the Tribal Clinic and CHS Program. The Benefits Counselor must have the ability to prioritize and multi-task as needed, initiate follow up contact with patients as needed and must have strong organizational skills.

3) Assist all uninsured patients with prescription drug assistance programs when a need is identified.

4) Register new patients using RPMS to include accurate collection of supporting documentation (ie: proof of residency, tribal affiliation, completeness of the registration form). Verification of Third Party benefits should be done at this time.

5) Update all patient demographic information provided and forward this information to all other appropriate departments

6) Assist in the tracking and management of the Medicaid Administrative Claiming (MAC) program.

7) Assist in the marketing, outreach and implementation of Health Care Reform.

8) Assist clinic staff upon request and to provide back up support to the medical receptionist.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITY:

·  Computer literate with specific working knowledge of Microsoft Office

·  Familiarity with electronic health records

·  Ability to communicate clearly, effectively and courteously with Cowlitz Indian department staff, supervisors and clients, verbally and in writing

·  Maintain a courteous and professional rapport with patients, clients and staff of the Cowlitz Tribal Community

·  Must be respectful and sensitive to the values and culture of the Cowlitz Tribal Community

·  Must become familiar with the Cowlitz Tribal Community, health department and available resources for patients, clients and families

·  Ability to apply common sense and critical thinking skills when carrying out written or oral instructions

·  Ability to effectively deal with a variety of interruptions that may arise during the course of performing the essential functions of the position

·  Must be caring, empathetic and dependable

·  Must be professional at all times

·  Must adhere to Federal Privacy Act and comply with Federal HIPAA regulations

Education and/or Experience

·  High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)

·  Two years experience working in a medical clinic or setting

·  Have or be able to obtain Tribal Assistor Certification

·  Medical Terminology (Preferred)

·  Medical Assisting (Preferred)

·  Associates Degree (Preferred)

Job Qualifications

·  Must submit to and pass a criminal background check and drug test
