1. ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT

Austin Health is one of Victoria’s largest health care providers. Comprising of Austin Hospital, Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital and Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre, Austin Health is a major teaching and research centre with numerous university and research institute affiliations.

Catering to diverse multicultural and veteran communities, Austin Health delivers vital state-wide services to Victorians and a vast array of specialty services to the people of Melbourne’s north-eastern corridor in a safety-focused, team-oriented and stimulating work environment.

2.  LOCAL WORK ENVIRONMENT (Role of the department including any special features of the workplace and relationships)

This role is part of the Fundraising Department for Austin Health, including fundraising for a variety of programs across each campus: Austin Hospital, Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital, Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre and the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre.

The role is located within the Fundraising & Development Department, Austin Hospital, Level 9, Harold Stokes Building, 145 Studley Road, Heidelberg, and will be required to work across all campuses.

Austin Health’s Fundraising department undertakes fundraising across two key ‘marketing brands’: Austin Health and the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre, so when reviewing this position the applicant should assume workload will be shared across each brand, and at times campaigns may be running concurrently for both brands.

3.  POSITION OBJECTIVE (Primary purpose of the role and key performance objectives – 3 sentence maximum)

The Head of Partnerships is a senior position responsible for the strategic development, management, and implementation of annual major fundraising partnerships programs. This role will work closely with the Director of Fundraising & Development and Head of Philanthropy to ensure co-ordinated an integrated approaches to donors in order to fund major projects and capital appeals across Austin Health & the Olivia Newton-John Cancer & Wellness Centre. The Head of Partnerships will conduct all fundraising activities in line with the approved Total Development Fundraising Program, and will play an active role in identifying projects that are likely to be of interest to potential partners.

This role will focus primarily on major donors within the philanthropic trusts field, corporate partners and major community group partners. In addition, this role also overseas staff managing the Volunteer–lead retail operations and the Signature Events.

4.  POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES (Main duties and other specific requirements, activity and results/outcomes, regularly performed)

Position specific

The Head of Partnerships is responsible for the development and implementation strategies to attract a minimum of $1 Mill of discretionary funding to the Austin Health / Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre (ONJ Centre) each year as part of a Total Development approach. Budgets will be set annually.

The Head of Partnerships will work with senior staff across Austin Health to determine the most attractive areas of Austin Health’s business for partnership alignment. The partnerships focus will include applications to Philanthropic Trusts, partnership and sponsorship approaches with corporates and organisations, and engagement with groups through workplace giving. The role will work closely with the Head of Philanthropy who will oversee major donor strategies with ‘individual’ major donors.

The following key result areas apply to the Head of Partnerships:

1.  Prospect Research

Working with the Director of Fundraising & Development and the Head of Philanthropy, you will research prospects for Major Gifts, Project Specific and Capital Programs & Appeals

1.1.  Identify and clarify projects across Austin Health and the ONJ Centre that are likely to attract funding support from philanthropic or corporate partners.

1.2.  Identify and recommend approach strategies to prospective major partners and grant making bodies.

1.3.  Research and write tailored proposals to secure major donations as required

1.4.  Make approaches where appropriate to potential major partners, or determine and support the appropriate individuals (ie: clinical staff, CEO, or Development Committee Members) to make the ‘ask’

1.5.  Assist in all aspects of Austin Health’s Project specific capital appeals as required by the Director of Fundraising

2.  Trust & Foundation Development

The Head of Partnerships will be responsible for the strategy and implementation of an annual Trusts & Foundations cultivation and solicitation program, including (but not limited to):

2.1.  Identifying philanthropic granting bodies to whom Austin Health can apply

2.2.  Identifying the precise requirements for grant applications to targeted philanthropic trusts

2.3.  Developing relationships with administrators and, where possible, trustees of grant making bodies

2.4.  Working with Austin Health / ONJ Centre staff to understand the needs for funding, and match the funding needs with appropriate philanthropic trust grant rounds

2.5.  Writing and editing grant applications

2.6.  Ensuring applications are submitted according to the guidelines provided, and on time

2.7.  Ensuring that progress reports and acquittal reports are sent to Trusts or granting bodies as required

2.8.  Overseeing any recognition required and ongoing cultivation of relationships with philanthropic trusts and foundations

2.9.  Work with Director of Fundraising & Development to determine how to broaden depth of Charitable Trust opportunities for Austin Health (given current legislative environment).

3.  Partnership / Donor Development

The role is primarily responsible for partnership / major donor cultivation activities including, but not limited to:

3.1.  Build successful partnership relationships thereby ensuring continued and increasing contributions in support of Austin Health, the ONJ Centre and various project / capital needs

3.2.  Ensure prompt attention is given to all partnership donors ensuring timely receipting and acknowledgment of all donations and gifts within two business days

3.3.  Research, identify, inform, motivate and acquire new partners (with focus on corporate partners and philanthropic trusts and foundations)

3.4.  Attend or facilitate Donor Tours (as appropriate) to cultivate relationships.

3.5.  Responsible for liaison with major community groups wishing to support Austin Health

3.6.  “Ask” for financial contributions to projects for Austin Health or the ONJ Centre or support appropriately selected and trained volunteers in the gift solicitation process.

3.7.  Work with members of Development Committees to identify prospects and develop relationships with potential corporate partners

4.  Sponsorship

The Head of Partnerships (with support from the Partnership Manager) will identify and secure commercial sponsorship partners, and is therefore responsible for:

4.1.  Identifying potential corporate sponsors for Austin Health and the ONJ Centre

4.2.  Develop and write sponsorship packages

4.3.  Secure sponsors through personal approaches

4.4.  Keep all major donors and sponsors well informed as to how their funds are being utilised and ensure they have a sense of involvement in the activities of Austin Health and the ONJ Centre

4.5.  Liaise with sponsors and Austin Health’s legal counsel to prepare and secure sponsorship agreement / commercial contracts as required.

4.6.  Ensure the delivery of all agreed recognition or marketing benefits to corporate partners and sponsors.

5.  Commercial Development

5.1 Oversee the development of retail and merchandising strategies (working with the Retail & Auxiliaries Co-ordinator

5.2 Oversee the implementation of workplace giving programs (working with Partnerships Manager

5.3 Oversee the management of retail strategies through volunteer lead opportunity shops (managed by Retail & Auxiliaries Co-ordinator). Currently this includes 2 x opportunity shops and 2 x hospital based gift shops

5.4 Oversee the development, implementation and management of signature events programs (working with Events Manager). Currently the events calendar includes ONJ Gala; Wellness Walk & Research Run; ONJ Summer Lights and new Austin Events.

6.  Management Responsibilities

The Head of Partnerships is a senior member of the team and therefore was responsibility for managing the partnerships area. This includes (but is not limited to):

6.1 Strategic planning and recommendations re: growth strategies for the Partnerships area.

6.2 Developing and managing annual budgets, and reporting on progress against budgets.

6.3 Staff supervision of Partnerships Manager, the Retail & Auxiliaries Co-ordinator and the Events Manager. Includes the allocation of workload, support with implementation of strategic plans, monitoring and reporting on results

6.4 Evaluation and monitoring of results within partnership development area, including recommendations for ongoing improvement

6.5 Contributing to the development / maintenance of a positive culture and morale across the Fundraising & Development Department

6.6 Other duties as required.

Generic

·  Ensure safe work practices and environment in accordance with Austin Health Policies as varied from time to time.

·  Ensure that Incident management systems are appropriately applied and a systematic response to local issues and performance improvement occurs.

·  Mandatory Training:

§  Upon commencement of employment, ensure all new employees in the department/unit complete all mandatory e-learning training on Fire Safety and Emergency Procedures; Bullying Harassment, EEO & Anti discrimination; Aggression Management; and Hand Hygiene.

§  Ensure that at any given time, 85% of employees in the department/unit have completed mandatory e-learning training on Fire Safety and Emergency Procedures; Bullying, Harassment, EEO & Antidiscrimination; Aggression Management; and Hand Hygiene.

§  Ensure that employees responsible for acting as Fire Wardens complete Fire Warden training annually and within one (1) month of commencing as Fire Warden.

§  Ensure any additional training for specific clinical staff is completed eg BLS, ALS, Movesmart, Cerner.

Essential for Performance in the Position

·  Experience in a successful fundraising or partnerships role within a not for profit agency (preferably major gifts / capital campaigns / corporate partnerships), including a proven track record in securing philanthropic and or partnership funding

·  Previous Management Experience

Desirable but not essential for Performance in the Position

·  CFRE (Certified Fundraising Executive) or equivalent qualification highly regarded

·  A sound understanding of information technology including the microsoft office suite

·  Good working knowledge of donor databases an advantage

·  Experience and proficiency in keyboarding and Computer skills.

·  Experience managing staff

·  Experience working for large and complex organisations

·  Experience working with celebrities or high profile brands (an advantage)

·  An ability to work flexible hours, including some after hours or weekend work
