Position Description for Chief Executive Officer

Situation

Clayton County. Clayton County, a suburban community located just south of Atlanta’s central business district, is home to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the world’s busiest passenger airport; the Georgia International Convention Center, a world-class venue that is directly linked to the airport’s ATL SkyTrain automated people mover system; Clayton State University, a major educational asset and home to a cultural treasure in Spivey Hall, the Carnegie Hall of the South; the Atlanta State Farmers Market; the 1996 Olympics Volleyball venue and many other attractions and businesses.

The Chamber. Based in Jonesboro, the Clayton County Chamber of Commerce is a business organization dedicated to making Clayton County the ideal place in Metropolitan Atlanta to live, work, and play. Founded in 1953 and accredited by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber promotes business growth and enhances the overall business climate for a prosperous Clayton County. After nearly ten years with the Chamber, the Chamber’s most recent Chief Executive Officer resigned at the end of 2015 to take a new position in the region. Accordingly, the Chamber has commenced a search for a new CEO.

Position Description

The CEO will serve as the head of the Chamber and report directly to the Chamber Board of Directors. The CEO will oversee all day-to-day Chamber operations, financial matters, implementation of Board decisions, and the development and implementation of the organization’s strategic plan. The CEO is responsible for ensuring the Chamber achieves its mission to facilitate the growth of businesses, jobs and the overall quality of life in Clayton County.

Major Responsibilities

·  Develop and implement a multi-year strategic plan for the Chamber

·  Track progress toward plan goals and communicate progress to the Board and Chamber stakeholders

·  Manage Leadership Clayton program and other Chamber programs, committees and events

·  Manage Chamber finances and ensure the financial stability of the organization

·  Implement various member / investor / sponsor development tactics to drive revenue

·  Manage Chamber Board and Committee coordination

·  Manage Chamber staff work and personnel issues as they arise

·  Implement a comprehensive communications strategy

·  Build and sustain relationships with Chamber partners - public / private and local / regional / state

·  Represent the Chamber and community on selected boards and committees outside of the Chamber

Preferred Experience / Qualifications

·  Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university

·  Five years experience or more: in the chamber or economic / community development fields; managing associations; or in business with experience and results that directly relate to the position of chamber CEO

·  Existing relationships with economic / community development professionals and organizations that might be of assistance to the Chamber

·  Proven track record with documented results, including financial management / budgetary experience

·  Strong leadership and communications skills

·  Previous supervisory / management experience, preferably as one of the top staff leaders at another chamber or economic development organization

·  Ability to navigate varied business / political climates and situations

·  Limited regional and national travel required, including overnight travel

·  Ability and willingness to attend early morning and evening meetings as required
