About SCARF Inc.

SCARF Inc. is a Wollongong based, independent not-for-profit incorporated association established to enhance the resettlement process of refugee entrants (holders of Humanitarian Visa Class 200 and sub-classes). SCARF is funded by donations, fundraising and small ad hoc grants.

The SCARF vision is to see refugee entrants happily settled in Wollongong and participating fully in the life of the wider community.

SCARF Mission

We believe that the vulnerability, helplessness and distress experienced by many refugee entrants can be relieved by empowering them through personal mentoring, targeted education programs, workplace experience programs,the provision of training grants and the building of social capital through other activities.

Position Description

  • Work with the Management Committee (and sub committees) to
  • provide positive leadership and strategic direction for the organisation;
  • coordinate funding opportunities and develop additional avenues for enhancing income to support delivery of activities and services;
  • ensure SCARF is compliant with all relevant funding requirements and statutory requirements and obligations including WH&S and child protection laws;
  • manage
  • the organisation’s budget and finances
  • current and future planning and
  • all aspects of the organisation’s operations;
  • monitor and measure social impact outcomes and implement evaluations as determined by the Committee;
  • promote reflective practice and continuous improvement.
  • Supervise and manage staff, Program Coordinators (Volunteers) and other volunteers.
  • Implement strategic plan and activity work plan and coordinate activities and programs for refugee community members.
  • Coordinate activities to increase donations.
  • Write funding submissions and grants as required.
  • Ensure systems are in place so that staff and the Committee have sufficient, accurate and up-to-date information to undertake their duties and obligations.
  • Act as a spokesperson for SCARF, participating in media activities, conferences and community gatherings to promote the organisation, as required.
  • Monitor activities and outputs, and oversee the production of the annual report.
  • Maintain key stakeholder relations, including relations with refugee families and communities.
  • Identify and manage risks.
  • Liaise between the Board and staff/volunteers.

Selection Criteria:

Essential

•Program management skills and the capacity to think critically and creatively about program development.

•Highly developed interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate respectfully with people from disadvantaged or marginalised backgrounds.

•Strong organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.

•Understanding of marketing, fundraising and promotion of a service aiming to deliver social outcomes.

•Understanding of the issues associated with assessing, screening, supervising and supporting volunteers.

•Understanding of the sector andthe challenges faced in the current funding and legislative environment.

•Understanding of settlement issues and issues facing vulnerable families.

•Knowledge of social justice and social inclusion principles and an understanding of community development processes.

•Commitment to continuous improvement, measurement and evaluation.

•Ability to operate both independently and collaboratively with a high standard of integrity.

•Current Driver’s license

•Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent life experience.

•Willingness to undertake a Working with Children Check and National Federal Police Check.

Desirable

•Experience in leading and motivating staff and managing teams

•Experience in submissionof successful tenders and grant applications

•Experience in evaluation and/or social impact outcomes measurement

•Experience in advocacy campaigns, marketing and/or fundraising.

•Experience in media liaison, use of social media and website management.

•Knowledge of community and other services relevant to refugees settling in the Wollongong region.

Organisation Structure

Reports tothe SCARF Management Committee.

SupervisesAdministration Officer, Program Coordinators and Volunteers and any other staff as required.

Collaborates with SCARF Founding Adviser(Community and Volunteer Program Coordinator).
