Position: / 4 month - FTE Contract - Child & Family Therapist

Salary Range: / $49,868.-62,715/annually
Position Summary:
Provides assessment and treatment for children and their families utilizing family, individual and group treatment approaches working with a wide range of treatment modalities within the multi–disciplinary context. Maintains direct service contact hours with clients of at least 40%.
Qualifications and Experience
1. M.S.W. or equivalent Master’s degree and registration/certification in good standing with a professional College of practice
2. Experience within at least one particular model/area of specialization in child or family therapy
3. 2 years clinical experience
4. Driver’s license and access to a vehicle
5. Training in a variety of treatment modalities including a supervised practicum in one of the areas of child
development or family development and functioning
Abilities:
1. Reads medical reports and case histories from outside agencies and professional journals.
2. Verbal communication skills necessary to convey information, participate in or lead group discussions, influence team
members in group decision making and conduct community workshops.
3. Assesses and states the dynamics of each case to others, gives some type of diagnostic formulation and
recommends the type of treatment suitable; clients often require persuasion to change behaviour.
4. Authors accurate and concise reports, forms and charts for development and implementation of treatment and
performance appraisals for students.
5. The challenge this position faces regularly is the diagnostic formulation for each client assigned for intake, assessment
and counseling for moderately complex cases.
6. It is necessary to ask a wealth of questions, understand the environment at home, school and in the community and to
make recommendations as to the best treatment plan.
7. This position utilizes vision and creativity and employs resources effectively for each child who has unique needs.
8. Clinical judgment in assessing situations of client risk is required for example, risk of suicide, risk of child
Abuse.
