The Qatar University College of Law seeks a proven leader with the vision, skills, and expertise necessary for implementing the goals outlined in the law school’s strategic plan. Among these goals are promoting quality teaching and scholarship, and enhancing the relationship between the law college and its stakeholders.

Position Term: Three Years renewable contract

Candidates should have an outstanding record of legal scholarship, be eligible for a Deanship appointment in the College of Law, and have demonstrated academic administrative and leadership skills. The dean reports to the Vice President and Chief Academic Officer and is a full participant in all of the academic councils of the University. Among the major responsibilities of the new dean are:

Main Responsibilities:

Academic and Programmatic Review

1.Leading the faculty in evaluating curricular and programmatic changes to improve quality;

2.Develop/implement/revise the College of Law assessment plan in collaboration with the faculty, in view of the standards of learning outcomes set by ABA

3.Oversee and follow-up the ABA assessment process and implementation of site visit team recommendations.

Management

1.Build consensus among the faculty and foster outstanding teaching and scholarship, and the academic community.

2.Follow-up with faculty and administration to assure fulfillment of recommendations by site visitors from ABA.

3.Review the performance and further develop the duties of the College of Law standing committees’, anddevelop and maintain the program’s curriculum guide.

4.Oversee faculty developmental plans and monitor impact and effectiveness.

5.Follow-up on faculty performance and manage the Faculty Performance Review and Development System

6.Develop and implement a mentoring program and follow up for new faculty.

7.Provide periodical reports about the college strategic progress to VP&CAO.

8.Review and approvefaculty applications for sabbaticals and promotions.

9.Play a leading role the College of Law standing committees: Assessment, Curriculum, Research, Hiring and Promotion.

10.Work effectively with the University administration, and inspire the confidence of students, staff, alumni

11.Coordinate the College’s Advisory Board.

Developing Connections beyond the College of Law

1.Strengthen and expand the working relationship and networking between the College of Law and international law associations, i.e. IALS, ABA, AALS, and CLDP.

2.Build and strengthen the working relationship and networking between College of Law and other selective Arab legal organizations and law colleges.

College Strategic Plan

1.Oversee and support the strategic planning of the college of law, and QU at large.

2.Ability to enthusiastically articulate and advance the mission of the Qatar University College of Law within the University, the accrediting agencies, and the various constituents the law college serves

3.Develop and implement a plan of action toward meeting the standards of membership in the Association of American Law Schools.

Minimum Qualification

  • Earned doctorate/JD from an accredited university/college
  • Record of successful leadership/administration experience at the college/university, departmental or programmatic level.
  • Evidence of scholarly and/or creative achievement.
  • Effective skills in oral and written communication, and analytical processes.
  • Record of success in collaborative decision-making.
  • Demonstrated experience with budget management.
  • Record of success in support of faculty development and student achievement.

Competencies:

  • Excellent verbal and written Arabic and English communication skills
  • Able to provide innovative and dynamic administration and teaching.
  • Creative scholarship skills and research strengths in any of areas of Law
  • Previous relevant administrative and academic experience
