Position: Applications Engineer

Reports to:Engineering Manager

Location:Warren, RI

As an application engineer you will responsible for supporting, creating, and executing on quotations and business development case studies for various composite component and assemblies for both our local New England facilities, as well as for our growth into the transportation market. The primary reporting will be to the engineering manager, however this role will need to also submit output to our transportation business development team. This position will require you to travel with the business development team to customer facilities during visits to discuss these future opportunities in depth.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides customer support by responding to requests for quotations with detailed analysis of product costing, schedule of creation, tooling costing, and submittal of design and process improvements, when applicable, to meet all customer product needs.
  • Works with engineering, sales, and production staff to understand standard component fabrication techniques, standard composite materials to use, and current demands of our customers to formulate quotations for the sales staff and our customers.
  • Provides product technical engineering information by creating and giving presentations on customer proposals. This contains, but is not limited to, costing breakdown, 3D representations of finished goods, 3D representations of tooling, etc.
  • Prepares cost estimates by studying blueprints, plans, and related customer documents; consulting with engineers, production, and other professional and technical personnel.
  • Conceptual design of composite components and assemblies
  • Generate solid and surface component and assembly CAD models
  • Ability to compose detailed bill of materials for proposals
  • Utilize custom metrics and analytics to quickly generate customer quotations
  • Work as part of a team of design and manufacturing engineering staff

Education / Skills / Experience:

The successful candidate will possess the following requirements:

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering required.
  • Minimum 5-10 years related experience required (transportation composite or other composite experience preferred).
  • Experienced with composite part fabrication and assembly is required
  • Proficient in CATIA V5 R21 and Solidworks 2013 or later
  • All Microsoft Office software including Project 2003 or later
  • Great problem solving and communication skills
  • Ability to work on projects demanding fast production startups
  • Project Management: ability to organize and manage multiple products through quotation process
  • Ability to work with vendors, customers and employees.
