POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Disability Services Coordinator

  • This is a full-time position
  • Employment is with Chattahoochee Technical College and not with an individual campus. All employees are subject to work relocation based on college needs.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating disability services programming for Chattahoochee Technical College.

  • Counsels students with disabilities in areas of career, education and personal planning.
  • Provides disability services to adults with a wide-range of disabilities.
  • Develops documentation guidelines to establish eligibility for students with various disabilities.
  • Creates and implements Individual Accommodation Plans and mid-term progress reports to monitor the academic progress of students with disabilities.
  • Designs student brochures, disability handbooks, power point presentations, disability forms and a website.
  • Provides expertise, consultation, and support to administration, faculty and staff.
  • Develops and provides staff training on disability services.
  • Provides assistive technology for students with disabilities.
  • Serves on college committees.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Baccalaureate Degree required in a course of study related to the occupational field.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years experience or service.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating disability services programming for Chattahoochee Technical College.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Counsels students with disabilities in areas of career, education and personal planning.
  • Provides disability services to adults with a wide-range of disabilities.
  • Develops documentation guidelines to establish eligibility for students with various disabilities.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Knowledge of the mission of postsecondary vocational/technical education.
  • Knowledge of various disabilities and the resulting functional limitations.
  • Knowledge of related state and federal regulations.
  • Knowledge of community resources for disabled students.
  • Knowledge of budget development and management principles.
  • Skill to work cooperatively with community leaders, students, faculty and staff.
  • Skill to make timely decisions.
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs.
  • Skill in decision making and problem solving.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Director of Student Support Services assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include the State Board of Technical and Adult Education Policy and Procedures Manual, Chattahoochee Technical College policies and procedures, Association of Higher Education and Disability guidelines, and applicable federal and state legislation, policy and guidelines. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

  • The work consists of varied administrative and management duties. The variety of tasks to be managed contributes to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to coordinate disabled student services programming for the college. Success in this position contributes to the recruitment and retention of students with disabilities.

  • Contacts are typically with students, faculty, staff, college administrators, and members of the general public.
  • Contacts are typically to motivate or influence persons, to resolve problems, to give or exchange information, or to provide services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, or walking. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
  • The work is typically performed in an office.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

This position has direct supervision over Administrative Assistant (1).
