POPE JOHN XXIII AWARD

Major Features

The POPE JOHN XXIII Unit Recognition may be earned by Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, Venture Crews, sponsored by Non-Catholic Organizations, with participating Catholic Youth.

Units may earn this Recognition on their own merit for a particular charter or calendar year and may re-earn it in succeeding years if the yearly requirements are met.

ARCHDIOCESAN COMMITTEE ACTION

Contact each Non-Catholic-operated Unit before re-chartering to review their achievement of requirements. The Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting will review the application and consolidate orders from eligible units onto one order form.

Pope John XXIII Archdiocesan Unit Recognition

REQUIRMENTS: The Unit must achieve all of the following to qualify for recognition:

Training
The Unit participates regularly in the training activity programs of the Council Catholic Committee.
Leadership
The unit has one or more registered, trained and active unit leader(s).
This Scouter Development Course is good for three years per adult, and may be renewed after the three years.
Spiritual Growth:
The unit provided a presentation to its members about available Catholic Religious emblems within the last year.
At least 25 percent of the registered Catholic members have received Catholic religious emblems appropriate to their unit status or are actively working on the program.
Light of Christ (Cub Scout) / Parvuli Dei (Cub Scout)
Ad Altare Dei (Boy Scout/Venture) / Light is Life (Boy Scout/Venture)

Pope Pius XII (Boy Scout/ Venture)

Religious Activities:
The unit Participates in one or more of the following experiences: Retreat, Bible Vigil, Day of Recollection, or those conducted by the Catholic Committee on Scouting within the past 12 months.
Relationships:
The Charter organization representative or a unit committee member meets with the representative of the Archdiocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting.
The unit is actively working toward the BSA Quality Unit Award.
Membership:
Catholic Youth membership at the beginning of the year___. At the end of the year: ___.
The unit annually reviews the meaning and obligation of the Cub Scout Promise, Boy Scout Oath and Law, Venture Scout Pledge.
