POSITION: Income Maintenance Caseworker III –

Lead Worker Family & Children’s Medicaid Concentration

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Lead Worker in the Economic Services Unit with a concentration in the Family & Children’s Medicaid area. While responding to client needs, this position will determine/redetermine applicant/client eligibility for benefits to individuals seeking Economic Services assistance including those provided under Food and Nutrition Services and Medicaid; will assure continuing compliance with program requirements as a subject matter expert in Family & Children’s Medicaid for IMC II staff, supervisors and agency director; and will provide technical expertise in NC Fast. The worker in this position must have a good work ethic, excellent computer skills; considerable knowledge of Economic Services law, policy, procedures, rules and regulations; and a considerable working knowledge of NC FAST. This worker must also have good interviewing skills; the ability to communicate effectively with persons of all socioeconomic backgrounds; and the ability to train co-workers in new and existing rules, regulations, policies and procedures. All DSS employees may be called upon to perform work during emergency or disaster situations including but not limited to staffing shelters overnight. This service, if required, will take precedence over duties described in this job announcement.

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:

Two years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker II. Graduation from an accredited associate degree program in Human Services Technology, Social Services Associate, Paralegal Technology, Business Administration, Secretarial Science, or a closely related curriculum; or graduation from high school and two years of paraprofessional, clerical, or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, gathering and compiling of data, analysis of data and/or performance of mathematical or legal tasks with at least one year of such experience being in an income maintenance program; or graduation from high school and three years of paraprofessional, clerical or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, the gathering and compiling of data, the analysis of data and/or the performance of mathematical or legal tasks; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

STARTING SALARY: Income Maintenance Caseworker III Grade 19 $26,983
