Donald John Trump’s victory in American presidential election was big shock for everyone in the world and nobody was expecting his winning. In his inauguration speech, he emphasized the great Americanism “America First” with announcing the big change of foreign policies. The Trump administration also proposed six top projects - America First Energy Plan, Bringing Back Jobs And Growth, Making Our Military Strong Again, America First Foreign Policy, Standing Up For Our Law Enforcement Community, Trade Deals Working For All Americans. After his speech and announcement most of media and the government in the world are worried about new start of conflicts and struggles among countries towards America.

One of Trump’s Middle East policies is renegotiating the JCPOA with Iran or annulling negotiation. He believes that Iran will not follow articles of the JCPOA and this agreement will provide time and finances to Iran for developing nuclear weapons like North Korea. His friendly Russian policy is also one of big turning point to the Middle East. World leaders express concern about end of the Syrian civil war and refugee problem. In addition, Trump’s friendly Israel policy will lead to aggravation in relation between Israel and Palestine. These kinds of uncertain his Middle East policy make lots of concern and worry.

In this unpredictable and turbulent period, Korea Association of the Middle East Studies (KAMES) is to hold the International Conference on “Seeking Harmony and Prosperity for the Middle East in the Era of Uncertainty” on 22-24 September in Seoul. The aim of the conference is to analyze Trump’s Middle East policies and to predict its outcome and sequence.

Panels:

• Politics: Trump’s New Paradigm towards the Middle East and Reestablishment of World Order

This session will analyze main stream of Trump’s Middle East policies researching his main insistence during his candidacy time and will discuss these policies’ effectiveness, problem, needs, and so on.

• Economics: Find the Economic Cooperation Field in the Era of Uncertainty

This session will review the economic relation among Asian and the Middle Eastern countries for 70 years off and on and will debate suitable new economic cooperation model in the post-oil era.

• Culture: The Role of Humanities for cultural diversification of Minorities in the Middle East

Ethnic, religious and cultural diversity in the Middle East has historically promoted mutual exchange in this region. In this session, recent minorities’ problem in the Middle East will be presented and will research political, historical and social backgrounds and causes.

PROGRAM

The welcoming dinner will be at 19:00 on September 22, 2017. The opening ceremony of the Conference will begin at 10:00 in the morning of September 23, 2017 with participation of foreign and Korean scholars, high figures of Korean government, Muslim diplomats to Korea and other participants. The conference will continue till the evening of the same day. Foreign participants should arrive in Seoul before September 23, 2017.

Each paper presenter has about 15 minutes and discussion shall be followed. The Organizing Committee will arrange some cultural programs, like visiting Museums and Palaces, on September 24, for the foreign participants till their departures and all other expenses including airfare & accommodation are the participants’ responsibility.

More detailed program will be delivered later and if necessary, the official invitation letter will be issued by the Organizing Committee on your request.
