POINT TURTON REPORT
Reporters: Donna and Leon
Most vans travelled straight from home on the Thursday, while some free-camped the day before and some stayed in a Yorke Peninsula Caravan Park to enjoy the journey. One member took a detour under a low-hanging tree and created an instant convertible conversion. He opted to return home to assess the damage. Perhaps a new penthouse is on the way?
The day cleared up, and became sunny and breezy. Perhaps the wind could be blamed for someone catching a fly in their mouth. So much protein to be had! At Happy the new name badges were available and met with nearlyeveryone’s approval. Not bad! The 6:30 pm “Evening Meal Together” became a Dinner for Four, which proved to be quite enjoyable for those who attended.
Those lucky enough to be near the water saw a Bronze Whaler on Friday morning, as well as many hapless fishermen trying their utmost to snag a squid or lure a Kingfish.
On Friday most people attended the Pub Lunch, which proved to be a great choice. The food was delicious, although some of us were forgotten and had lunch served much later. On returning to the park after lunch, one member discovered that his keys were still in the door of his van.
Everyone gathered in the camp kitchen for a night of Charades. The stars of the night were Philippa’s “pancake”, Judy D’s “matador”, Chris’s “limbo”, and Joseph’s “alarm clock” and “nightmare,” (which coincidently, had identical actions for both words…..) What a lot of great sports.
Judy D. offered to pick up and deliver everyone’s newspapers, although we believe there was a small problem on Saturday when she asked for the Sunday Mail as well. The weather improved, and several carloads of members went exploring to Innes National Park. Five cars managed to meet up for lunch (after a slight change of venue), and everyone returned home on time, except for Tony, whose faithful navigator fell asleep which added an extra 100kms to their outing.
Sunday morning’s breakfast was supplied by the Club, and cooked by some rather cheerful volunteers. One member-in-waiting was heard to ask for TWO eggs, and more bacon!!!! The Committee are now scrutinising his membership application.
Sunday was a stay at home lazy day, but for some, it was a trip to Edithburgh to sample their food and wine, and take in their local singers and dancers. Disc bowls was cancelled although D’Arcy indicated that he would play with himself (and possibly win!) His spouse offered to play with him and we decided to leave them to it. The weather was kind and we had Happy Hour out in the sun with plenty of yummy nibbles. Graham gave a lovely talk on his early days living in Ardrossan. We all enjoyed it and had a hearty laugh at his discipline story, all except for one little lady who was cringing in the corner.
Monday was home day, and while there were plenty of sad farewells, everyone remained upbeat at the thought of Christmas in Riverton. Ho! Ho! Ho!
