Podcasting Technology Plan

Creating a podcast media center in the high school library would be beneficial to all students and faculty in the building. The plan includes two laptops, a digital audio recorder and microphone/headphone headset to be used to create podcasts in the library. The portable digital audio recorder would enable students or teachers to do interviews or performances for projects.

Using podcasts for the library would enable the librarian to set up podcast tutorials on accessing and searching the library catalog, research skills, questions on how to manage your library account, book reviews or book lists, and library news (Jowitt 54)

Faculty will be able to sign out laptop carts to create their own podcasts for their classrooms. Students will be able to create podcasts through classroom assignments and projects. Collaboration with the librarian and teachers will enhance student learning and engage the students in authentic learning experiences. Administrators can post weekly messages to the students and parents. Teachers can use the podcasts to do book talks, class notes, and class discussions. Foreign language teachers can use podcasts for pronunciation, vocabulary and to for the students to practice dialogues. Students can create podcasts for book reports or class projects. Students can even create their own radio show and have an outlet for their creativity.

Having a podcast media center available to the faculty and students in the school will allow parents and the community to listen to podcasts about current school news and even about sporting events. It is a great way to get the community aware and involved at what is going on in the district. This center will not only benefit the library, but in every area of the school.

According to Ralph and Olsen, podcasting gives students a “learn anytime, anywhere' mentality and expect to be able to accessinformation in a variety of formats, regardless of where they are” (275). Students will be able to download podcasts from home and access class notes or discussions. The availability of podcasts across the curriculum will increase authentic learning experiences. Allowing students to create their own podcasts, they can network with other students, adding to this experience and changing how students are engaged in the learning experience (274)
