2013 Seasonal Spring Hire

For Hydrologic Technicians (PlumasNational Forest)

The Plumas National Forest, Mt. Hough Ranger District Watershed Program is looking to hire twomotivated individuals to work as seasonal Hydrologic Technicians for the spring/summer of 2013. The positions are located in Quincy, CA. The position will be a GS4-7 ($13.41-$18.59/hr. based on experience and/or education, see Housing may be available.

POSITION:

The duties of the job include evaluating soil conditions in future timber sale areas, hydrologic evaluations of forest roads, surveying streams, and assisting with watershed restoration projects. The successful candidate will gain experience in watershed condition assessment, GPS technology, and forest hydrology. They will be working with a series of road and soils survey protocols to determine and record site data for planning of forest and watershed improvement projects.Stream channels will be examined as they interact with the road network and there is the possibility for stream survey and watershed restoration work.

The job requires field work 4-5 days per week, with minor office time. Field work involves hiking/walking through uneven terrain and may require carrying moderately heavy field packs. Safe driving skills are required as driving on native surface logging roads is an integral component of the job.

We are looking for individuals who have experience withhydrology, soils and field work. GIS, GPS, and database skills would be helpful, but these skills are not required. These positions may be filled either using a student hiring authority or from a general recruitment. Contact for more info.
