  4. One hard copy of the application must be signed and received or postmarked on or before March22, 2015, in order to be considered, no exceptions. Faxed applications are not accepted. Scholarship recipients are expected to attend the Foundation’s awards event on May 17, 2015. Details will be provided with award announcements.

County-Wide Scholarships

Sue Dilts Memorial Art Scholarship

  • Must attend or be a graduating senior of a school in GratiotCounty;
  • Must pursue education beyond the classroom in arts (e.g., band camp, dance workshops art class, etc.).

One scholarship available for as much as $800.

MildredChaffin Portner Scholarship

  • Must be a Gratiot County high school junior or senior;
  • Must use scholarship in pursuit of a post-secondary education at a college or university or in a vocational or technical program;
  • Must complete and submit the Foundation’s Scholarship Application;
  • Must complete and submit an historical essay focused on a person, place or event in Gratiot County. The essay must:
  • Be typewritten and double-spaced in a 12 point font size with one inch margins all around;
  • Include a title page, annotated bibliography and the body of the paper be no more three 8.5 x 11 inch pages in length;
  • Not be bound in any way other than a paper-clip;
  • Utilize at least one original source identified in an annotated bibliography;
  • Follow current and generally accepted rules for writing an historical essay.
  • Students are encouraged to use the Gratiot County Historical and Genealogical Society, and/or other local historical and genealogical societies, as a resource in writing the historical essay;
  • Essays will be archived at the Gratiot County Historical and Genealogical Society as a resource for future research.

One scholarship available for as much as $500.

Eagle Scout Scholarship

  • Must be an Eagle Scout currently registered in an active unit in Gratiot County, Michigan OR maintain the BSA “College Reserve” registration;
  • Previous recipients may reapply, but will only be considered if there are no new applicants;
  • Must have earned their Eagle Scout Award while a member of a Gratiot County Boy Scouts of America Troop;
  • Must have been a member of a Gratiot County Boy Scouts of America Troop for at least two years;
  • Must be a legal resident of GratiotCounty, unless a graduate student who meets other requirements;
  • Must use scholarship in the pursuit of post-secondary vocational, technical, or undergraduate education;
  • Must demonstrate high moral character and participate in service to the community;
  • Must submit personal letters of reference from the Scout Leader and one other individual representing community, school or church;
  • Must submit a completed Eagle Scout Scholarship Information Form available on the Foundation’s website or by calling the Foundation at (989)875-4222; and
  • Must submit a completed Gratiot County Community Foundation Scholarship Application available on the Foundation’s website or by calling the Foundation at (989)875-4222.

One scholarship for as much as $500.

Farming Family Scholarship

  • Must be a graduating senior from a GratiotCounty high schoolpursuing a post-secondary degree in agriculture or agriculture-related fields at a college, university, vocational or trade school
  • Previous recipients may reapply with no priority preference;
  • First preference given to students with a farm family background;
  • Academic excellence;
  • Demonstration of high moral character;
  • Evidence of service to community; and
  • Completed essay on the applicant’s farm family background and its impact on who you are and what you wish to become.

One scholarships available for as much as $1000.

Anna Frutiger Memorial Scholarship

  • Must be a graduate student pursuing a doctoral degree in medicine or dentistry at an accredited US medical or dental school;
  • Must be a graduate of a GratiotCounty high school with preference to AlmaHigh School graduates;
  • Must demonstrate financial need, academic excellence and high moral character;
  • Must provide evidence of service to community;
  • Must submit essay on goals as a medical/dental professional;
  • Must provide personal letter of reference from academic advisor, clergy member or other nonfamily member attesting to community service and high moral character.

One scholarship available for as much as $2,700.

Gratiot County Fair For Youth Memorial Scholarship

  • Must be a graduating high school senior accepted at a college, university or trade school OR a student currently in his or her first year at a college, university or trade school;
  • Must be a current Gratiot County Fair for Youth exhibitor who has participated for a minimum of five years with a preference to exhibitors who participate in multiple areas;
  • Display a commitment to community service;
  • Demonstrate leadership skills;
  • Must not be a previous recipient of this scholarship;
  • Must submit an essay outlining the skills learned as a fair exhibitor and how those skills will serve you throughout your lifetime. Be certain to address the aforementioned criteria. Essays must be no longer than one typewritten page in an easy to read font. Also include at least one personal letter of reference.

Two scholarships available for as much as $550 each.

Gratiot Physicians Group Scholarship for an Allied Health Professions Student

  • Must be a GratiotCounty resident;
  • Must demonstrate commitment to serving the Gratiot service area following completion of education;
  • Must be enrolled in post-secondary education pursuing a degree in an allied health profession;
  • Demonstrated academic achievement and financial need;
  • Previous recipients may reapply for up to three years with preference given over new applicants.

One Scholarship for as much as $500.

Gratiot Physicians Group Scholarship for Children of Deceased Physicians

  • Must be a Gratiot County resident and child of deceased physician;
  • Must be enrolled in post-secondary education in any area of study;
  • Demonstrated academic achievement and financial need;
  • Previous recipients may reapply for up to three years with preference given over new applicants.

One Scholarship for as much as $500.

Gratiot Physicians Group Scholarship for a Medical Student

  • Must be Gratiot County resident and enrolled in medical school;
  • Must demonstrate commitment to serving the Gratiot service area following completion of education;
  • Demonstrated academic achievement and financial need;
  • Preference to students attending Central Michigan University College of Medicine;
  • Previous recipients may reapply for up to three years with preference given over new applicants.

One Scholarship for as much as $500.

Gratiot VFW Post 7805 Scholarship

  • Must be a graduating senior of a school in GratiotCounty seeking post-secondary education;
  • Must submit a one-page, typewritten essay answering the question, “What does military service mean for the nation?”;
  • Preference to relatives of veterans-attach list of veterans, their service and relation to applicant;
  • Preference to those demonstrating academic achievement and financial need.

One scholarship available for as much as $1,300.

Loren Humm Memorial Sugar Beet Grower’s Scholarship

  • First preference to seniors graduating from a GratiotCounty high school. If none, then previous graduates from a GratiotCounty high school may be considered;
  • Must be from a family of sugar beet growers, have executed a 4-H project related to sugar beets, or be from a family that owns sugar shares as documented by at least one letter of reference from a 4-H Advisor, FFA Advisor, and/or a field man;
  • Must have a 3.0 grade point average based on a 4.0 scale;
  • First preference to applicants pursuing a degree at a college or university. If none, then applicants enrolled in trade or vocational programs may be considered;
  • Financial need is a consideration for this scholarship, but not a requirement;
  • Whether an applicant is pursuing a career in agriculture or ag-related business is a consideration for this scholarship, but not a requirement; and
  • If sugar beets cease to be grown locally or there are no applicants with family or 4-H connections to sugar beet growing as referenced above, the scholarship may be awarded to other crop growers meeting like criteria.

Linn P. Kanitz Memorial Scholarship

  • Must be a student at a school in GratiotCounty;
  • Must apply scholarship to band camp tuition;

Robert W. MacDonald Memorial Scholarship

  • Must be a graduating senior of a school in GratiotCountyor AlmaCollege student;
  • Must pursue post-secondary study in journalism;
  • Must submit two references on a form specific to this scholarship (form available from high school counselor or Foundation Website). One must be from minister, church youth advisor or adult with first-hand knowledge of personal qualities and moral character and the other from a teacher or counselor;
  • Must submit a one page, typewritten essay outlining your career and educational goals and why citizenship, community service, church involvement and moral character are important to you.

Two scholarships available for as much as $2,150 each.

Katherine Mullinax Memorial Scholarship

  • Must reside in Gratiot County and be either a graduating high school senior OR full-time student enrolled in post-secondary educational institution including college, university, vocational and post-graduate study OR previous scholarship recipient;
  • Preference given to those demonstrating academic achievement, community service and financial need.

As many as 9scholarships available for as much as $2,000 each.

Don and Irene Pavlik Memorial Scholarship

  • Must be a graduating senior from Breckenridge, Alma or St. Louis High Schools and pursuing post-secondary education at an accredited college, university or trade school;
  • Preference given to those pursuing a degree in the field of education.

One scholarship available for as much as $1,100.

Richard D. Prestage Memorial Scholarship

  • Must reside or be employed in GratiotCounty;
  • Must pursue education in the field of nursing;
  • Prior recipients may apply.

Two scholarships available for as much as $1,200 each.

Loren and Becky Roslund Scholarship

  • Must be a graduating senior of a Gratiot County high school pursuing post-secondary education at a college, university or vocational/trade school;
  • Previous recipients may reapply without preference;
  • Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA on 4.0 scale;
  • Preference to students pursuing a career in agriculture, engineering, computer-aided drafting or similar area;
  • Must demonstrate financial need;
  • Must provide a personal letter of reference from a non-family member (such as clergy, teacher or advisor.

One scholarship available for as much as $1,000.

Dale and Camille Weburg Scholarship

  • Must be a GratiotCounty high school graduating senior;
  • First preference given to those pursuing a career in agriculture or agriculture-related fields;
  • Demonstrated high moral character;
  • Must submit a letter of reference from a teacher, advisor, pastor, employer providing examples of demonstrated high moral character; and
  • Financial need may be considered.

One scholarship for as much as $500.

Youth Advisory Council Scholarship

  • Must be a graduating senior of a school in GratiotCounty pursuing post-secondary education;
  • Must be a member of YAC for at least two years and have participated in no less than five meetings and/or YAC community service activities each year;
  • Must have at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale;
  • Must submit confirmation of service from YAC Advisor;
  • Must submit a one-page, typewritten essay illustrating the impact of YAC on applicant’s life AND applicant’s community;
  • Must submit at least one and no more than three letters of support of`applicant’s community service and moral character (family members and YAC advisors excluded).

Ryan Owens Memorial Scholarship

  • Must be a graduating senior of AlmaHigh School;
  • Mustpursue post-secondary education in auto mechanics or agriculture at a trade school, vocational program, college or university;
  • Must have at least a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Breckenridge High School Scholarships

Breckenridge FFA Alumni Memorial Scholarship

  • Must be a current or past Breckenridge FFA member;
  • Must be in pursuit of a post-secondary degree at a college, university, vocational or trade school;
  • Must have at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale;
  • Previous recipients may reapply;
  • First preference will be given to a graduating senior and those demonstrating high moral character,and those presenting evidence of service to school and community

One scholarship available for as much as $1000.

Leo ‘Bud’ and Janet Goodyear Scholarship

  • Must be a graduating senior of BreckenridgeHigh School pursuing post-secondary education at a college, university or trade school;
  • Must have at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale;
  • Preference given to those demonstrating financial need;
  • Preference given to those pursuing education in the field of agriculture.

Two scholarships available for as much as $1,450 each.

Clyde and Maude Mizer Memorial Scholarship

  • Must be a graduating senior of BreckenridgeHigh School pursuing post-secondary education;
  • Must be a member of Breckenridge FFA;
  • Consideration will be given to applicant’s proposed course of study, academic performance, character and financial need;
  • Must submit at least one letter of recommendation from a member of the Breckenridge FFA Alumni Association.

One scholarship available for as much as $1000.

Richard Thomas Van Haften Family Scholarship

  • Must be a graduating senior of BreckenridgeHigh School pursuing post-secondary education at an accredited college or university;
  • Must have at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale;
  • Consideration will be given to those demonstrating financial need;
  • Consideration will be given to the applicant’s service to church, school and community as well as to demonstrated moral character.

Two scholarships available for as much as $500 each.

Carson City-Crystal High School Scholarships

Ceo Bauer and Ardis (Williams) Bauer Scholarship

  • Must be graduates of CarsonCity-CrystalHigh School pursuing a post-secondary education at an accredited college or university;
  • Must be between the ages of 16 and 25;
  • Preference given to those pursuing an education in the field of agriculture or forestry;
  • If no applicants pursuing an education in the field of agriculture or forestry, consideration will be given to demonstrated financial need, career aspirations and community service;
  • No preference given for academic achievement, except in the case of prior recipient applications;
  • Prior recipients of this scholarship may apply (college transcript required confirming minimum 2.00 GPAover the previous two terms based on a 4.00 scale);
