VIDEO AND PHOTOGRAPHS:

Photographs and video footage may be taken at our performances, examinations days, or other events which may be used for archives, advertising purposes, for example on our Facebook page or school website. Photographs and video footage will also normally be taken by a professional at performances for sale to children’s parents and families.

ROYAL ACADEMY OF DANCE EXAMINATIONS:

Examinations sessions and entries are made at the discretion of the principle at appropriate times during the academic year.Students will only be entered for RAD Examinations when they have reached the appropriate stage of their training, and are physically and cognitively prepared to do so. They are assessed entirely on an individual basis. Every studenthas the option not to enter for examinations, but encouraged to do so for progression purposes. If a parent does not wish their child to take part in the examination, the child may not be automatically allowed to move into the next level. This would be at the Principal’s discretion.

Further information on the RAD Examinations and Syllabus can be found on their website:

INSURANCE:

Edinburgh Ballet teachers are professionally trained, licensed and insured for the purposes of dance/fitness teaching. Children and students of Edinburgh Ballet are not insured against damages under our policy, and parents are therefore asked to seek their own insurance, should they wish to, in the event of an accident occurring.

PERSONAL INFORMATION:

Information marked with an * on the previous form will be used when applying for a Royal Academy of Dance Candidate I.D number. ID numbers are required when children are entering for RAD examinations at the appropriate age and level. Date of Birth and students names are held by the RAD, and are used for certificate purposes. Please note that information may be given to the RAD for these purposes, and Edinburgh Ballet will not accept responsibility for replacement certificates where incorrect information is placed on the registration form. Any fees required to be paid to the RAD for replacement certificates will be the responsibility of the parent/guardian.

Edinburgh Ballet will endeavour to maintain confidentiality, and personal information will not be given out to any other organisation (without consent), except where specified above.

WITHDRAWAL FROM CLASSES:

Edinburgh Ballet requires that one full term or ten weeks’ notice (not including the summer holidays) of withdrawal is given in writing when leaving the school. This allows us to determine numbers for each class in the following term, as well as organising advanced studio bookings.

BEHAVIOUR AND CLASS GUIDLINES

Class participants are asked to respect their teacher and act appropriately both in class and when waiting to enter the studio. Any children who are found to be abusive or acting inappropriately may be asked to leave the school, with no reimbursement of fees. In an attempt to avoid injury, it is the responsibility of the parents to make sure their children are not running around or playing outside the studio. Other members of the public use our facilities. Please respect this.

Please endeavour to bring your child to class each week, as continuity is paramount to their understanding and progression in dance.

In the event of any missed classes, children are permitted to ‘make up’ classes by attending another one at their present level. Please inform the teacher first.

If your child is late to their dance class, please ask them to enter the studio quietly, so as not to distract the other children.

UNIFORM:

Class participants are expected to adhere to the uniform guidelines for each class. This includes hair styles and accessories. From ‘Pre-Primary in Dance’ upwards, girls are expected to have their hair in a secure bun (or pony tail for modern/jazz). This is not only part of their uniform and female dancers’ requirements, but also a safety and health related feature. The teacher is not responsible for styling a child’s hair if it is not secured correctly prior to the start of class, and may be asked to leave the class for a parent to redo it. Pre-school children should have their hair tied back securely and out of their face. Buns are not compulsory at this level, but are preferred.

CORRESPONDENCE:

Correspondence with Edinburgh Ballet will be made via email where possible in order to avoid paper wastage. It is the responsibility of the parent/student/participant to inform Edinburgh Ballet when an email address requires updating. Edinburgh Ballet cannot be held responsible for information that has not been received (e.g. fee invoices), due to lack of correct email address.

CLASS FEES:

Dance class fees are due in advance of the first day of each term, and an ‘Early Bird’ rate is offered for early payment where appropriate.

Please also note that termly fees are for dance classes only, and are not inclusive of Examination/Class Awards, rehearsal or performance fees.

TEACHING DURING CLASS:

On occasions, it may be necessary for the teacher to touch a child in a professional manner in order to assist the child’s understand of an exercise or movement.

ABILITY TO TAKE PART:

I agree that the registrant is fit and healthy, and there is no reason why they should not take part in dance classes. Otherwise please specify.
