The purpose of this position is to be responsible for overseeing and managing safe and best practice for the whole Genesis Multi-disciplinary Team and Therapeutic interventions.

ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES

Liaise with Police Youth Aid services, the Multi-agency triage team, Oranga Tamariki staff , relevant community agencies and other child and youth specific organisations (e.g. Schools, G.Ps, Youth Centre’s) to increase access to specialist care for Genesis referred children and youth requiring further external specialist treatment.
  1. Participate as an effective team member in the development and functioning of the Genesis Youth Trust overall Service with a commitment to bi-cultural health delivery, ongoing education, and innovative practice.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Overall Service Delivery

A key responsibility will be the implementation and full training in the YSL-CMI Assessment Tool across Genesis interventions, along with coordinating the Training and Development for the whole Genesis team. In conjunction with colleagues and families, provide comprehensive and developmentally appropriate psychological assessment and treatment for youth with substance use and coexisting mental health problems and disorders:-

  • Maintain a high standard of professional care in accordance with the standards set by the New Zealand Psychologists Board.
  • In conjunction with the team, help provide the co-ordination needed to redirect children and young people if inappropriately referred, or facilitate assessment if indicated.
  • Collect and document information consistently and systematically, defining confidentiality from the outset and maintaining a safe pathway of care for consumers throughout their contact with the service.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments (YLS-CMI) and utilize standardized psychological assessment techniques as appropriate.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans based on comprehensive assessment.
  • Develop and implement individual, family/whanau and group treatment options along with the Genesis multi-discipline team
  • Liaise and consult with other team members and persons identified as having functional roles, thereby facilitating a safe pathway of care for referred children and young people.
  • Update skills and knowledge base constantly, in conjunction with the team and with associated individuals, by becoming familiar with up-to-date research, child and youth and CEP practice and other established models of care.
  • Schedule time to update knowledge, including attendance at relevant courses/seminars or conferences and reading relevant literature for self and the Genesis team.
  • Participate in regular clinical supervision with an appropriately qualified and experienced Psychologist.
  • Establish links with other AOD/CEP child and youth focused organisations.
  • Develop individual plan of skill and knowledge up-date, initially within six months, with regular evaluation of process.
  • Auditing/ Quality Assurance
  • Design and implement an auditing programme to validate the consistent and correct use of YLS-CMI assessment by accredited staff. Ensure corrective actions are undertaken in a timely and professional manner, including any recalibration of past assessments. Work with external Crown agencies in the regular auditing of our YLS-CMI assessment system (as defined in our Outcome Agreement), ensuring maximum utilization of our own internal monitoring.
  • Participate in the team quality assurance process in accordance with Genesis’ Policies and Procedures.
  • Ensure all documentation and processes are clear and meet legislative requirements.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate group treatment programs for clients of the service
  • Provide clinical supervision as needed
  • Participate in any relevant research projects.
  • Meet monthly with the Team Manager to review and evaluate performance issues and standards and to plan future professional and personal development.

  • Include the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi within all aspects of the role and its outcomes

  • Provide leadership to ensure Genesis is the lead provider of choice for Youth Justice & youth at risk referrals/interventions in each area for our key stakeholders - Police, MVCOT and the community.
  • Work with Management and direct staff to develop and implement ongoing evaluation processes and procedures.
  • Ensure the cultural diversity of the customer base is respected in all undertakings.
  • Support the provision of ongoing training opportunities for staff and assists with implementing training & development plans.

Administration

  • Drive continual service excellence by using and maintaining the Promapp system in relation to Therapeutic intervention processes.
  • Ensure all relevant data is entered into Exess, our Client Management System, on a daily basis.
  • Oversee all referrals from Police Youth Aid, MVCOT, and Community and assesses and allocates referrals in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Link Staff KRI’s with performance appraisals and contract outcomes.
  • Oversee direct staff to develop strategies (e.g. social workers, wraparound services) designed to prevent and reduce the incidence of child and youth offending.
  • Oversee the monitoring and compliance of formulated action plans.
  • Publish professional and timely monthly reports to Genesis CEO/GM or as requested for audit and contractual purposes.
  • Communicate Monthly progress reports to Genesis CEO/GM, Genesis Operations (G-OP) and the Genesis Clinical Advisory Committee..
  • Ensure staff accountability through regular monitoring and reporting in QMS (Exess).

Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with Genesis Management team and all Genesis staff.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with Youth and Community related agencies. Liaise with agencies to assess, monitor and action matters pertaining to Genesis.
  • Attend relevant networking meetings with referral agencies to promote the Genesis.
  • Ensure all service requests and complaints are met with a professional, customer-focused and timely response following Genesis Policies and Procedures.

Team Management

  • Develop and maintains a high performing team.
  • Plan, co-ordinate, and monitor the work of the Genesis staff through regular Leadership & staff meetings.
  • Provide leadership and direction and acts as a role model for the Genesis team.
  • Identify and assist in the selection and placement of staff.
  • Ensure systems and behavioural alignment to the integrity, ethics and values of the organization.
  • Ensure strong and effective channels of communication between the Police Youth and Community staff, MVCOT staff and Genesis.
  • Encourage behaviour that develops a constructive culture.
  • Ensure Genesis’ Processes are known and adhered to by all staff at all times.
