Please be aware that Student Health Services bills on a “fee for service” model, similar to a primary care physician’s office. Students will be billed for all office visits, laboratory, radiology services and prescription medications.

The student MUST bring an insurance identification card with them every time they are seen at our facility. If the student does not currently have their own insurance identification card, contact the carrier member services or customer care line and request a card for the student.

Currently our facility has participating provider status with the following insurance carriers.

Anthem Blue Cross/Blue ShieldAetna

CignaConnecticut Department of

ConnectiCare Social Services (DSS/HUSKY)

United Health CareCHP Cigna (school offered plan)

For any of the above plans, we will file medical claims directly with these carriers and will accept payment of negotiated, reasonable and customary reimbursement. Patients are responsible for any copayments, coinsurance or deductible amounts and will be billed via fee bill for any patient responsibility.

If the student is covered by any carrier, other than those listed above, charges for services rendered can either be paid at the time of service (we accept cash, check or credit card) OR the charge can be transferred to their university fee bill, to be paid to the bursar’s office.

It is strongly recommended that you review your alternative coverage to determine if benefits are payable for services performed at our facility. Many carriers have specific reimbursement rules related to out of area services or care by out of network providers. In addition, many plans have high deductibles that must be met before any benefits will be paid. Also, your plan may require preauthorization, precertification or a referral by the patient’s designated primary care physician. If your plan does require this coordination of care, it is the patient’s responsibility to obtain any necessary authorization or referral.

A thorough comparison of your current, other coverage versus the CHP Cigna Student Health Plan is strongly recommended. For Storrs campus students most services provided to the student at Student Health Services are covered at 100% with no coverage limitations, copay or deductible. The plan also extends to nationwide services, with in net work providers with no referral, authorization or precertification required. Services out of Student Health Services would be subject to applicable deductible and office visit copay.
