Dear Surrey Street Resident,

Subject: Surrey Street Market carriageway improvements

Carriageway improvement works will be taking place on Surrey Street as part of the council’s ambitions to rejuvenate Surrey Street Market. This will include new improved surface materials, a more levelled carriageway, new street lighting and the creation of a more pedestrian-friendly environment to improve the street scene.

Croydon Council are working with their contractors to start on site the week commencing Monday 27th March 2017. The works are due to be on site for 10 weeks, completing the first week of June. To ensure the improvements are carried out safely and as quickly as possible to reduce the length of time the market will be closed, our contractors will be working 7:30am to 7:30pm seven days a week. Our contractors will be restricted to undertaking noisy activities between 8am-6pm only.

The market will be temporarily relocated during this period and there will be disruptions to vehicular access onto Surrey Street, but access for businesses and residents will be maintained at all times. Further information will be provided on the level of disruption expected and any changes you need to be aware of regarding deliveries and access to your business.

An electronic copy of this letter will be available on our website at: www.croydon.gov.uk/surreystreetmarket. Further information will also be available including key dates and information about the improvement works.

If you have any queries about the works please contact .

This is a great opportunity for Old Town and for the future of Surrey Street Market. We will be working hard to ensure works are completed to schedule with minimal disruption as possible to traders, residents and businesses.

Yours sincerely,

Councillor Mark Watson

Cabinet Member for Economy and Jobs
