MEDICAL LICENSURE

I am registered with the South African Medical Council under medical practitioners

Number 0674737.

I am also a member of the Canadian Medical Society licence number 33009.

CURRENT EMPLOYMENT
  • Currently I work in a group practise as a family and sport medicine physician in Williams Lake, British Columbia, Canada.

PREVIOUS EMPLOYMENT
  • In 2010 I was the team doctor for the Blue Bulls Rugby Union under 19 and 21 rugby teams in Pretoria South Africa.

I also did locum work for the High Performance Centre in Pretoria, South Africa (a sport academy) this included medical screening for various sport teams and general medical practise.

I did locum work at Eugene Marais Hospital where I was part of the spinal rehabilitation unit. I assisted with orthopaedic related surgery for surgeons at Wilgers, Unitas and Pretoria East Hospitals in South Africa.

  • I was employed at Kalafong Hospital in Atteridgeville, Pretoria until 31 May 2010. I mostly worked in the Family medicine department. Kalafong Hospital is a secondary hospital and I work mostly in the family medicine clinic where we see all the patients referred from the local clinics. We see a wide range of patients from the newly diagnosed or uncontrolled hypertensive and diabetic patient to more complex patients.

The department also has a short stay ward where psychiatric patients are observed for 72 hours under the Mental Health Care Act. Other patients with fairly minor ailments, for example a patient with severe tonsillitis or pneumonia is also treated in this ward.

I have also spent some time at Pretoria West hospital, Lauduim Health Care Centre (a primary health care centre) and the Immunology (HIV) clinic at Kalafong Hospital. At the immunology clinic I have treated HIV patients and commenced initiation of their treatment in starting them on anti-retroviral medicine.

I was also involved in the emergency unit and do my calls there. The emergency unit manages an average of 3900 patients per month comprising of all emergency medicine cases and this includes priority one resuscitations in trauma, internal medicine, paediatrics, gynaecology, surgery and orthopaedics.

As I am very fond of orthopaedics and it over lapses greatly with sport medicine I rotated to the orthopaedic department on a regular basis.

  • I started my studies in medicine to specialise in sport medicine, so as from my 4th year of my medical studies I started, under the guidance, of a sport physician to do 1st aid at college rugby football matches on a part time basis. As time went by and I graduated, I eventually started to work on my own and managed these games. Today I manage these games (on several occasions the games are on four or more fields) on a regular basis, also school athletics, the recent Davis Cup tennis, adventure races and a few marathons.
  • Before starting to study medicine I worked in government as I wanted to start studying. I worked at the State Treasury. Here I was part of the section that did internal audits. I left this post when I started studying full time.
  • On returning to South Africa after working in Germany for two years I worked for a German company which produced the leather seat covers for the Audi A4 and A6. These covers were exported via air transport (daily airfreight containers) to Audi Germany on JIT basis.
  • Fortuna Sport ReklameGmbh in Neustadtan der Weinstrasse, Germany followed the experience in the wine industry. This is a sport advertising company which produces and publishes sport material for winter skiing and soccer in Germany, England and the Netherlands. I was responsible for liaising with clients in these countries.
  • My first position was at Weingut Dr Bürklin Wolf in Wachenheim Germany. This is a wine estate in the Rhine Valley in Germany. Here I was taught the whole process of winemaking from the actual wine producing to the marketing of the product.
