Trustee updates
Trustees welcomed new and returning members, and thanked them for the time they commit to this committee. Trustee Lawton commended bus drivers and staff on the smooth coordination of bus routes.
Director's update
Director Pontes also extended his thanks to new and returning members. He outlined the following updates:
- Re-organization - collecting data around enrolment and making action plans based on this information.
- Labour action – if rotating strikes occur, the board will provide communication to parents.
Planning calendar
Meeting dates for the 2015-16 school year were approved by committee members. The October 19 meeting was moved to October 26 to accommodate for the federal election. Executive positions, including secretary, treasurer and co-chair, will be decided on at this meeting.
Budget update
Kayla provided an updated budget spreadsheet to committee members. The committee has a budget of $50,363, which includes the 2015-16 PIC budget of $30,625 as well as $19,738.55 in unused PRO grant funds from 2012-13. The unused PRO grant funds must be spent before December 11, 2015, as per the permission provided by the Ministry.
Great Start 2015
Kayla gave a brief outline of the school council orientation event, which will take place on Nov. 5 at 5 p.m. at Judith Nyman Secondary School. PIC members were encouraged to attend, and set up a booth where parents can get more information about PIC. If PIC would like to fund a workshop, as they did last year, central staff will need to know by early October.
