Supplies

Please purchase the items on the School Supply List for First Grade. This was mailed in May in your child’s Kindergarten Report Card; a copy has also been provided for you. Your child will need many of these supplies on the first day of school.

School Hours--Arrival/Dismissal—After School Program—Absences

ARRIVAL: School begins promptly at 7:45. Please be considerate of the school start and dismissal times as class instruction in my class is from bell-to-bell. If your child arrives at school after 7:45 he/she will be marked tardy.

CAR-RIDERS: Keep in mind that students arriving by car may wish to arrive minutes before the 7:45 a.m. bell to avoid the heavy traffic in the carpool lane in the morning.—Riding the bus may be a good choice for most since students arriving by bus are never marked tardy, even if the bus is delayed.

DISMISSAL: School dismisses at 2:15 p.m. except on Early Release Days. If you need to check your child out of school early, please sign him/her out in the office first. If you need to check your child out around dismissal time, please do so by 1:45 p.m. so as not to interfere with the normal school dismissal procedures.

TRANSPORTATION & CHANGES: Your child will go home at dismissal according to the procedures that you have provided the teacher with at Sneak-A-Peek. ***IMPORTANT: All transportation changes must have written notification informing the teacher of the change OR a call can be made to the Pitner Front Office notifying the office of a change for your child that day (Ph. 678-594-8320).—PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL TRANSPORTATION CHANGES AS THEY MAY BE NOT BE VIEWED BEFORE DISMISSAL TIME!

*****PLEASE NOTE THAT WITHOUT NOTIFICATION FROM A PARENT, TEACHERS CAN NOT ALLOW A CHILD TO GO HOME A DIFFERENT WAY IN THE AFTERNOON, JUST BECAUSE A STUDENT “TELLS” THE TEACHER THERE IS A CHANGE. THIS IS FOR THE SAFETY OF YOUR CHILD.

ASP: The After-School-Program is pre-pay—there are no charges. Students must be pre-registered and prepaid to stay in the After School Program. There is an annual registration cost of $10 and the cost per day to stay in the program is $7. Forms can be found in the school office.

ABSENCES: If your child is absent from school, he/she must bring a written, signed note listing the absence dates and reason for the absences. All absences without a written excuse will be considered “unexcused”.

Breakfast, Lunch, and Snack

BREAKFAST-$1.25: A delicious breakfast is served in the cafeteria beginning @ 7:15 a.m., however, the breakfast line closes at 7:40 a.m. so arrive before this time if you are planning to eat breakfast.

LUNCH: Our lunch time is: 11:11 p.m.-11:41 p.m.. The cost of a student lunch is $2.15 per day or $10.75 per week. Extra milk or juice can be purchased for $.60. Adult lunches are $3.25. Fast food and canned sodas are not permitted. Lunch charges are not allowed, so please be sure your child’s lunch account is prepaid or send money daily. Please send lunch money in a sealed envelope or plastic bag with your child’s first and last name, teacher name, and amount enclosed or pay for meals online.

“PARENTS ARE WELCOMED TO EAT WITH YOUR CHILD”: *I encourage all parents to please join your child for lunch in the cafeteria when you can. This is a treat for your child! –If you wish to have lunch at school, please sign in at the office first, and then meet us in the entry hall at the front of the school at your child’s scheduled lunch time.---PARENTS SHOULD SAY THEIR GOOD-BYES IN THE HALL AFTER LUNCH AND NOT FOLLOW STUDENTS TO THE CLASSROOM, AS WE WILL BE BUSY WITH INSTRUCTION AFTER LUNCH.

SNACK: Our lunch is later in the day, so students may wish to bring a snack from home to eat during Recess. Each child is responsible for bringing their own nutritious snack. Some suggestions are granola bars, crackers, cheese, pretzels, popcorn, fruit, or vegetables. Students will not be permitted to eat candy for snack. No juice drinks please. Water bottles are fine, however, water fountains are available. I also provide small, disposal cups so that students can get water as needed throughout the day..

Specials—Birthday Parties—Medications—Lost & Found:

SPECIALS: Our PE/Health/Music/Art/Technology time will be 8:15-9:00 each day. At the beginning of each month, your child will bring home a “Specials Calendar”. Please check the “Specials Calendar” daily and be sure your child wears tennis shoes, as well as shorts or pants, on “PE” days.

BIRTHDAYS: Parents are not permitted to bring treats for birthdays. This is Pitner Elementary school policy. Each child will receive a treat at lunch time in the month of their birthday. Also, please note that birthday invitations for private parties may be given out at school ONLY if there is ONE INVITATION FOR EVERY STUDENT IN THE CLASS!

PERSONAL INFORMATION: Teachers are not allowed to give out personal information of other students such as parent/ student U.S. mail addresses, phone numbers, or e-mail addresses. This is Cobb County Policy.

MEDICATIONS: If your child needs to take medicine at school for any reason, it must be in the original bottle and a school medication form must be filled out by the parent and given to our school nurse in the clinic near the office. All medications must be kept and dispensed through the nurse in the school clinic. Students will not be allowed to administer their own medications.—This includes inhalers, cough drops, etc.—Our school nurse is Ms. Kelly Sarris.

PERSONAL ITEMS: Please label all items (especially book bags, jackets, sweaters, and lunch boxes) that your child brings to school. PLEASE, NO TOYS, VIDEO GAMES, ETC. OR OTHER EXPENSIVE PERSONAL ITEMS AT SCHOOL AT ANY TIME. The school cannot be responsible for lost items.

I hope this information will be helpful for the first week of school. Don’t forget to join me for Open House on Tuesday, August 12 @ 6:00 p.m.

I’m looking forward to a fun and fabulous year of learning!

Smiles! Ms. Meek
