PINPOINT TEST B: DTC C1925 — VAPS SOLENOID ACTUATOR RETURN CIRCUIT FAILURE

Pinpoint Test B: DTC C1925 — VAPS Solenoid Actuator Return Circuit Failure

Refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 43 , Power Steering Controls for schematic and connector information.

Normal Operation

The front electronic module (FEM) sends the variable assist power steering (VAPS) solenoid a pulse-width modulated (PWM) current through circuit 8-CE9 (WH/GN). The VAPS solenoid sends a feedback voltage to the FEM module, depending on the power steering assist demand, through circuit 9-CE9 (BN/GN).

DTC C1925 VAPS Solenoid Actuator Return Circuit Failure — This DTC is set when the VAPS output current is different from the VAPS current read back from the solenoid. If the current being requested (output) is different from that read back for more than one second, the DTC is set.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

Wiring, terminals or connectors

Power steering valve solenoid

VAPS solenoid

FEM

PINPOINT TEST B: DTC C1925 — VAPS SOLENOID ACTUATOR RETURN CIRCUIT FAILURE

CAUTION
CAUTION: Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multimeter probes.
Test Step / Result / Action to Take
B1 ISOLATE THE VAPS SOLENOID
With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to Jacking and Lifting.
Disconnect: VAPS Solenoid C120.
Measure the resistance across the VAPS solenoid C120, pin-1 and pin-2, component side.

Is the resistance approximately 6 to 8 ohms? / Yes
GO to B2.
No
INSTALL a new VAPS solenoid. REFER to Power Steering. CLEAR The DTC. REPEAT the self-test.
B2 CHECK CIRCUITS 8-CE9 (WH/GN) AND 9-CE9 (BN/GN) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
Disconnect: FEM C201a.
Ignition ON.
Measure the voltage between ground and:
VAPS solenoid C120-2, circuit 8-CE9 (WH/GN), harness side.
VAPS solenoid C120-1, circuit 9-CE9 (BN/GN), harness side.

Is any voltage present? / Yes
REPAIR the affected circuit(s). CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.
No
GO to B3.
B3 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-CE9 (WH/GN) FOR AN OPEN
Ignition OFF.
Measure the resistance between VAPS solenoid C120-2, circuit 8-CE9 (WH/GN), harness side and FEM C201a-9, circuit 8-CE9 (WH/GN), harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? / Yes
GO to B4.
No
REPAIR circuit 8-CE9 (WH/GN). CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.
B4 CHECK CIRCUIT 9-CE9 (BN/GN) FOR AN OPEN
Measure the resistance between VAPS solenoid C120-1, circuit 9-CE9 (BN/GN), harness side and the FEM C201a-2, circuit 9-CE9 (BN/GN), harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? / Yes
GO to B5.
No
REPAIR circuit 9-CE9 (BN/GN). CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.
B5 CHECK CIRCUIT 9-CE9 (BN/GN) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
Measure the resistance between VAPS solenoid C120-1, circuit 9-CE9 (BN/GN), harness side and ground.

Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? / Yes
REFER to Multifunction Electronic Modules to diagnose the FEM.
No
REPAIR circuit 9-CE9 (BN/GN). CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.
