The purpose of the PTO Mini Staff/ Teacher Grant is to assist with funds for an enrichment initiative such as a special project, learning concept or training sessions that would provide the entire Piney Branch Elementary community, or a population greater than represented by an individual classroom, with a value added experience that would exceed regularly allocated school resources.

2017 – 2018 School Year

Eligibility Status: You must be a staff PTO member to be eligible for the grant.

Examples:

·  Training to implement a new academic program, project or activity that would benefit the entire grade level, sub-set of group or school as a whole.

·  Equipment or manipulative needed for a specific learning concept.

·  Expansion of library materials.

·  Equipment that is specially designed to promote sensory experiences in order to regulate brain functions, increase attention and enhance focus to better enable the learning of academic tasks.

·  Student magazine or book subscriptions that will further aid in instructional support.

What the Mini Grant Program is not:

•  A second avenue for teachers to increase their current stipends for individual classroom supplies or individual classroom field trip experiences.

•  A place for interested parents to seek funding for projects that primarily benefit either their own family or their own children’s classroom(s)

•  A fund that we plan to fully exhaust early in the academic year

•  Funding for staff time

Application Process:

·  Teacher or staff member will fill out the grant form and submit to the PTO Board at or in the PTO mailbox no later than 12/22/2017.

o  When preparing the cost please be sure to consider cost of shipping, tax exempt status and cheapest option.

·  The PTO Board will meet to review and score grants submitted in January 2018 and will present the top highest ranking proposals to the January PTO meeting for general review and approval.

o  If additional information is requested the requestor may present at the PTO meeting.

·  The PTO Board will notify the requestor of the approved grant amount by the end of January 2018.

·  The grant requestor can decide if they would like to be reimbursed or use on the PTO credit card. All invoices and receipts should be sent to the PTO Treasurer to track expenses. For all reimbursement and credit card purchases contact the PTO Treasurer at

·  Please Note: Grants are specific to the year in which they are requested, unless determined otherwise and funds are to be spent within 90 days of their receipt unless an extension is approved by the PTO Board. The PTO will not reimburse expenditures made prior to grant approval and notification. Repeat applicants, seeking funds for same event each year, may be asked to submit every year, to allow new applicants to receive grants.

Priorities:

All grant requests should be for programs, projects or materials that enhance the school community. Priority will be given to grant applications that:

•  Have a clear purpose and support the highest standards of academic excellence.

•  Address a specific need of the PBES community

•  Benefit a large number of PBES students.

•  Benefit a particular subgroup, special population, or address closing the achievement gap in the PBES community.

•  Have no other avenue for funding (district, school, corporate, parent, etc.)

•  Have matching funds from other sources.

•  Have letters of support for the project (special cases).

Review Process: The Principal and PBES PTO Board will review every grant application and will score based on the evaluation criteria.

Is the request bringing new, unique or innovative tools, techniques, materials or instruction to our schools?

Does this grant benefit a reasonable number of students in relation to the dollar amount requested? The PBES grant program prefers broad projects benefitting many students to narrow projects benefitting only a few students

Do the goals and objectives of this grant fit within the mission of the PTO?

Will this grant be implemented in a timely manner with measurable results?

Total assigned score

Grants awarded an average score of 40 or higher are considered as approved, providing PTO funds are available.
