KOODIKOODI, WILLING & ERETHIA

This week we will look at THREE important trees in Aboriginal culture. Koodikoodi is common around Broome and there are a few examples left at the College. It is found hanging over trees like a net. It is a parasite tree living on its host. Its fruit is ready to eat when it turns white. Click on the following link and try to answer these questions.

Now we move on to the next tree called WILLING. It can be very dangerous as its berries were used to tatoo the body. Some call it the ‘SOYA SAUCE’ tree because of the sticky brown appearance of its berries. Click on the following link to answer these questions.

Now for the last tree for this week.

The name of this tree is ERETHIA. RED is a colour for danger in nature. For example the Red Back spider and the Giddy Giddy seed found in Broome which will kill you if eaten. However, the berries of this tree, while being red, are quite O.K. to eat. A good example of this tree is beside the basketball court.
