Dear

Pilot Black & Minority Ethnic (BME) Mentoring Programme

I am writing to let you about the Trust’s intention to launch a new BME Mentoring Programme, which is an exciting initiative aimed at supporting the integrationof our equality objectives within our mainstream operations. It also helps to realise our public sector duty committments, in relation to black and minority ethnic members of staff. The mentoring programme is in keeping with our equality objectives on which we are measured by the CQC and above all by the BME community.

I am keen to see a number of positive outcomes from this programme and hope to roll it out across the Trust. I would welcome your support in helping to circulate this information as widely as possible to encourage BME staff,up to and including band 6, in your department/directorate to register their interest.

Kelly Bunce, Human Resources Advisor, will be contacting you over the next few days as she is coordinating the list of participants.

Initially staff will need to attend a full training day plus an evaluation interview. The continuing relationship between mentors/mentees will need to be agreed as an ongoing process between staff and their managers.

If they wish to find out more information, please advise that potential applicants may contact either Lesley Mansell, NBT’s Equality and Diversity Manager or Berkeley Wilde from the Diversity Trust.

The Trust has commissioned the Diversity Trust to:

  • Design and deliver a pilot mentoring programme for BME participants drawn from staff within the Trust
  • Recruit and select mentors and mentees for the pilot programme
  • Identify the needs of BME staff in relation to mentoring and personal and career development within the Trust
  • Facilitating evaluation sessions with mentors and mentees
  • Write a pilot programme evaluation report

Berkeley Wilde, from the Diversity Trust, is leading on this project and has extensive experience in this area of work.I hope that you will work with him to deliver the above objectives.

The programme timetable will to run from late September2011 to March 2012.

If you wish to discuss anything regarding this piece of work, please contact Lesley Mansell, NBT’s Equality and Diversity Manager on 0117 340 6471 or email .

or you may Berkeley Wilde directly on mobile 07747 752 454, or .

Yours sincerely
