A ‘WIN-WIN’ OPPORTUNITY………?

The PIANC UK Section is organising a competition to secure some memorable images for use by PIANC International:

-to publicise PIANCMMX –the 32nd International PIANC Congress to be held in Liverpool, UK,in 2010 (pre-conference publicity and images to display at the Congress)

-to promote PIANC’s ‘Working with Nature’ Position Paper1 and to support this important theme at the PIANC MMXCongress

-to supply environmental images for use in the ‘PIANC 125 years’ publication2

-to provide environmental images for future use on PIANC websites

This competition is open to all PIANC3 members4, internationally. We are looking for interesting, high quality digital images on one of the two following environmental themes:

1. ‘Working with Nature’

Photographs entered in this first category will illustrate how any aspect of navigation (ports, waterways, commercial or recreational navigation, dredging, etc.) can co-exist with – or indeed benefit - the natural environment.

2. ‘Navigation in the Environment’

Thissecond theme is intended to be broader, offering a chance to submit photographsdealing with the human or built environment, with navigation heritage, etc.

Thewinner of each category will win a prize of £500. If one or both of the winners is present at the 2010 Congress in Liverpool, certificates will be presented to the winners on this occasion.

In addition to the winning photographs, PIANC hopes to display a number of ‘runner up’ images from each category by way of an exhibition at the Congress.

It is an important condition of entry is that you agree to PIANC making full and free use of the image(s) you submit inter alia to meet any of the objectives stated above. PIANC reserves the right to make appropriate use any of the photographs submitted. Images submitted must be your own photographs and must be free of any copyright or similar considerations.

You may enter more than one photograph, but each one must be submitted separately and each image must be accompanied by the following information.

-Your name and, if appropriate, the organisation you represent

-Your contact details (your address including country; telephone number; e-mail)

-Your PIANC affiliation (name of individual or corporate membership; country)

-The title of your image

-Where and when your photograph was taken

-The category in which the image is submitted (Working with Nature orNavigation in the Environment)

-The following statement: “I, ..insert your name..., confirm that this photograph is my own work and is free of copyright restrictions. I agree to allow PIANC to make use of this image as required for the purpose, inter alia, of promoting the 2010 PIANC MMX Congress; publicising the PIANC ‘Working with Nature’ position paper; and/or supporting the 125 year anniversary publication. I agree5 to PIANC acknowledging my name alongside the title of my image”
