OUTPATIENT THERAPY FOR NEUROLOGICALLY BASED DISORDERS

Serving persons with traumatic brain injury, stroke, brain tumors, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, meningitis,encephalitis and other forms of acquired brain injury.

Providing individually customized treatment in the areas of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech/Language Pathology, Neuropsychology and Counseling. Medical direction provided by Dr. Gary Duncan, Board Certified Neurologist.

Specializing in intervention for cognitive disorders,mild traumatic brain injury, visual perceptual deficits, and balance / vestibular disorders.

Focusing on intensive treatment in three general areas, based on client/family goals:

Return to Work: Emphasizing strengthening work skills and strategies, on-site work transition, and collaboration between client, therapist and employer.

Return to School:Targeting strengthening academic skills and strategies, treatment in the classroom if appropriate, teacher/peer inservicing and participation in M-team meetings. Established relationships with high school and college educational services.

Increased Independence in the Home and Community: Intensive therapy tailored to the client’s family roles and community interests, including treatment in community settings and possible volunteer placements, as well as in the clinic.

FALLS RISK / BALANCE ASSESSMENT AND TREATMENT

Physical therapists specializing in the assessment and treatment of clients with vestibular and balance disorders, and those who are at risk for falls due to a variety of causes. Therapy focused on functional adaptations to maintain independence and decrease risk of falls, particularly in older adults.

DRIVING EVALUATIONS

In-clinic assessment of physical and cognitive driving components and on-the-road evaluation in adapted vehicle. Evaluation and training in the use of bioptic devices for driving.

AUGMENTATIVE ALTERNATIVE COMMUNICATION EVALUATIONS AND TRAINING

Intervention for severe communication deficits with fitting and training of a wide range of high tech augmentative and alternative systems to improve and maintain functional communication.

NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATIONS AND COUNSELING

In-depth neuropsychological assessments with particular focus on persons with acquired neurological disorders. Individual and family counseling tailored to the unique needs of clients with acquired neurological impairments. Intervention addressing adjustment to disability and role changes.

ACCENT REDUCTION TRAINING

Individualized program for persons with foreign or regional accents who wish to improve professional and social speaking skills. Small group and individual sessions available.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

We serve adults and adolescents (from age 14) with acquired brain injury, stroke or other neurologic impairments. Younger children are accepted on a case-by-case basis.

Clients must be medically stable, continent, and mobile, with or without an assistive device.

Clients must be able to stay on-site (not wander) with moderate supervision. They must pose no danger to self or others.

REFERRAL PROCESS

Referral by physician, case manager or self-referral should be accompanied by medical and treatment records to allow for appropriate scheduling and assessment planning.

Physician orders are required for evaluation and treatment.

A free one-time consultation to determine appropriateness for program services, including an on-site visit with client/family, may be arranged.

Fees are reimbursable through most major insurance carriers and Medicare. TennCare accepted for in-network carriers.

Transportation provided as available and necessary.
