PHYSICIAN TESTIMONIALSFOR DERMAPEN

“I have been using Dermapen® for the treatment of patients with wrinkles, acne scars, and hypertrophic surgical scars. I have used it both alone, and in combination with platelet rich plasma (PRP). This technology when used alone provides an effective and cost effective method for stimulating collagen production and fibroblast proliferation. When combined with PRP these effects are potentiated. My patients are very comfortable, and the early results make them eager to complete their course of treatment.”[1]

Dr Gordon Sasaki, MD speaks about the vertical intrusion, variable needle depth and adjustable speed settings.

“The difference with the Dermapen from the other types of micro needling devices on the market is that it’s not a (derma roller) wheel barrel, it’s a pen. …The beauty of this device is that on the handpiece, the pen, you can adjust the needle depth from 0.25mm in depth to 2.5mm…which is important when you’re doing facial work or non facial work because certain parts of the face like the upper lip or lower lip skin is thicker. If you use the (derma roller) wheel barrel, you’re stuck. There’s only one depth. (But with Dermapen) you can vary the depth during the procedure, just by pushing it, it’s marked. You can also vary the frequency. If you want to work slowly you work at one setting, it’scalibrated 1 setting frequency. If you want to work really fast you work at the 6-7 setting.

The motion of the needle is up and down like a stamping effect up and down, automated up and down. The reason that’s important is that a vertical intrusion into the skin, dermis, causes less trauma then when you’re wheel barreling it. When you wheel barrel you tear the opening.”[2]

“…It’s like the poor man’s fractional laser because it’s not expensive, a few thousand dollars vs. many thousands of dollars. It’s very simple and easy to use. It’s something that has good efficacy without tremendous capital outlay and very safe treatment in skilled hands…I have delegated it to my PA and nurse…”[3]

For Dr.Alex Kaplan, treatments are mostly performed by his PA/

“We like to use it (the Dermapen) for acne and pimple scars primarily and for hypertrophic scars or keloids…There is virtually no downtime. Someone getting a CO2 treatment, they have at least a couple days where they pretty much stay at home, whereas this is similar to Fraxel, they have some redness but they can go about their business the next day. It’s also less painful than even Fraxel. We use topical anesthetic prior to treatments, but we don’t have to provide any painkillers so there is no issue of drowsiness after procedure. They can immediately drive themselves.”[4]

“I have the skin care specialist and aesthetician. She is the one who does the micro-needling, especially with the PRP on most of the patients, and it’s nice when you have a micro-needling device, since you have something that is entering the skin you can do this pretty quickly and with consistent results. It’s time-efficient because you’re rolling over the skin with it. It’s entering the skin with these small little needles and when it’s entering ,the skin is gently traumatizing the dermis and epidermis and when you traumatize it from an ablative laser or this, you’re actually helping to remodel the collagen. That’s why this thing is good. It’s great for scars, wrinkles, tone of the skin, pores, acne scars, surgical scars, anti-aging…”[5]
