YOU MUST HAVE YOUR OWN SET OF COLORED PENCILS NOW FOR SCIENCE

Introduction:When a substance goes through a phase change, it is changing states. The three states are: ______. Although it is changing states, it is still the SAME substance. This kind of change is a PHYSICAL/CHEMICAL change. This change is dependent on ENERGY!You will create a comical poster that will include a character that goes through a phase change and it must be original. (no blood, death, kill, hate, or inappropriate words)

ASSIGNMENT:

In this activity you will make a poster that illustratesat least 2phase changes. You will have the remainder of this block and next block, and home time to create and finalize a poster.

Your poster MUST meet these criteria:

Check off the boxes as you go:

It must have a title, your name, and period.

It has to have at least four squares – like a comic strip.

PHASE CHANGE DIAGRAM must be included on the poster – labeled and colored

Each phase change must have an EXPLANATION that must follow the guidelines on the back.

Each square must have a CAPTION –the character must have something to say!

It needs to be colorful and well illustrated.

All written material needs to be inked in -NO PENCIL!!!!

You need to do a rough draft on a 8 ½ X 11 inch piece of blank paper FIRST. Once Ms Toal approves that everything is properly done on your rough draft, then you may proceed to your final nice paper for your beautiful illustrations. You only get one piece of nice paper.

Please spend some time on creativity. Cartoon characters are welcome. EVERYTHING can go through a phase change – it just depends on energy. Think Think!!! Be creative make it funny!!

What are examples of 2 phase changes?Vocabulary for the phase changes:

  • Start with a Liquid  Gas LiquidVaporizingCondensing
  • Start with a Gas  Liquid  Solid Condensing Freezing
  • Start with a Liquid  Solid Gas Freezing  Subliming
  • Start with Solid  Liquid  GasMelting  Vaporizing
  • Start with a Solid  Gas  LiquidSubliming  Condensing

WHAT IS NOT ALLOWED:

NO ICE CUBES OR POPSICLES ********* NO ICE CUBES OR POPSICLES !

YOU MAY NOT DO MELTING  FREEZING OR FREEZING  MELTING TOO EASY

Use the following tables to make sure you have included all the required information. This information must be followed in this specific order. Check off the “S” boxes when you have included it in your rough draft. The “T” box is for me to use to grade your final comic strip.

/ Hi! I’m Fred the popsicle!! I am a solid and have definite shape and volume. My particles are packed very close together and are only vibrating.
/ Darn! The sun came out and I melted. I gained too much thermal energy and have changed from a solid to a liquid.
