Physical Education Syllabus Cal Aero Preserve Academy

Physical Education helps students to develop the knowledge, fitness levels, motor skills, and personal and social skills to obtain the ultimate goal of a lifetime of physical activity and health.

The Cal Aero Physical Education Program integrates health and physical activity into one multifaceted program. It covers a wide range of skills and appropriate knowledge base. While movement is both innate and essential to an individual’s growth and development, it is the role of physical education to provide instructional activities that not only promote skill development and proficiency, but also enhance an individual’s overall health. Physical Education not only fulfills a unique role in education, but is also an integral part of the schooling process.

The aim of the program is for students to become physically educated, able to enjoy a wide variety of physical activities, and become committed to life-long health and physical wellbeing. It is a continuous process from 7th-8 grade with sequential development of knowledge and skills.

GRADES will be based on the following criteria:

1. Participation/Effort Students receive two points per day foractive participation and effort including warm up laps, stretching, roll call, and the activity/lesson for the day.

ABSENCE – A STUDENT WHO HAS AN EXCUSED ABSENCE HAS THE OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE UP THE MISSED WORK!

The following actions will result in point deductions from the student’s grade:

-Non-participation ………………………………………………... .(-2points)

-Unprepared (not changing into appropriate class dress)…...... (-2 points)

-Leaving field/gym or locker room without permission………....(-2 points)

-Tardy to activity/roll call………………..…………………….……(-2 points)

-Fail to use correct locker room behavior……………………..(-2 points)

2. Mile Run - Students run one mileevery week-10 points possible.

3. Following class Rules (Locker room behavior, no food/drinks, cell phones, and behavior). Water is ok

4. Dressing out - Students may not wear their personal clothes on under their PE clothes-results in no credit for the day. Students must wear Cal Aero PE clothes (gray shirt, red bottoms) and must have proper athletic shoes.

The following grading scale will be used:

A+=100%

A=90-99%

B 80-89%

C=70-79%

D=60-69%

F=50% and below

PHYSICAL EDUCATION DRESS:

The following policy outlines the standards of dress for Cal Aero Physical Education classes.

1.Cal Aero shirts and shorts

Students may not wear their personal clothes on underneath their PE clothes

2.Sweatshirts are available to purchase during cold .days

3.Tennis shoes and socks.Shoes must the appropriate flat bottom sole.

Shoes that mark the floors are not allowed.

ABSENCES / ILLNESS /INJURIES/MAKE-UPWORK:

It is the STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY to make-up all missed days. The students are responsible to get the absent assignment policy sheet from their teacher.

MEDICAL POLICY:If a student is not feeling well and doesn’t feel they can participate in PE that day, a note from home is needed and they are able to make up those points. A doctor’s note is needed if the students will not be able to participate for more than 3 days.

HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICIES:

- Students are aloud in the locker rooms during class time and accompanied by an instructor.

- No large earrings, watches, or bracelets are to worn to class.

- Use the equipment properly and as instructed.Students damaging school equipment or property will beliableto repair or replace.

- Follow all class safety procedures and rules.

- Good judgment, reason and common sense are to be used at all times.

- Physical Education students will not use the Physical Education locker rooms throughout the school day. It is strictly used during PE time class only.
